Confrontation with an abusive moron.......
Edited on Mon Aug-02-04 05:58 PM by Darth_Kitten
Yikes, what a day I had!

I was out shopping and went for a walk. I was on this sidewalk on a bridge, just walking and minding my business. In the distance was this guy on a bike. I was just walking enjoying the day, when guy (about 50/55, should have known better than to ride a bike on a sidewalk, especially on a bridge!!!) Anyways, I'm on my side of the sidewalk, so if he wanted to go past there was plenty of room to go by (which is generous of me and anybody else, since it's illegal to ride on the sidewalk, etc)

He comes without 5 feet of me, and starts yelling and berating me. I wake up from my daydream(I wasn't paying much attention to anybody, just walking) "You are SOOOOO stupid, lady, you are SOO stupid", blah blah blah, very vicious and hostile......then he rides by me (apparently I didn't jump out of the way of Mr. Gentleman and he skidded off his bike and fell to the ground. "You STUPID #$#@#, etc, etc, etc....." Uh, "you are the idiot, I have the right of way?" ...."Shut up,just shut up, you stupid old man" (I'm not usually so ageist, but I was really pissed) "Shut up and leave me alone!!!"
He advances up to me "People like you are so stupid, etc etc" I said come closer to me and I said I'll call the police.(I had no cell phone, but I was desperate He did, and I threw my fountain drink at him. He said he ought to toss me into the river.......I said try anything I'll call the police (obviously, I'm not willing to stick around).....

Apparently it was an idle threat as he got back on his bike and rode away....

Ah, nice......a woman cannot even walk anywhere in safety....this was in the suburbs, in a usually nice neighbourhood. What a jerk.

1. Yikes!
I was scared just reading it.

Curious what he meant by "People like you are so stupid".

Was he white, and you aren't? Wonder if maybe he meant "women", meaning "people like you".

AFAIAC, he *needed* to fall off his bike.

What an asshole.

6. Just think of it this way...
You only had to put up with his abuse for 5 minutes. He has to live with himself 24 hours a day. Poor fellow.

Next time just ignore him and keep walking.

11. I love being around situations like that.
I really do, because I dive right in and intercede. I am good at it too, whichever way things go. Lots of experience as a barroom bouncer gave me mediation skills and 17 years of martial arts training for when things go bad.

That includes groundwork and grappling. Sensei was a wrestling coach, too.

You rarely need it though. Bullies are real easy to get to back down.

13. Dude sounds like he was on something
Maybe meth. It's known to cause extreme, uncontrollable aggression. Whatever his problem was, I'm sorry you had to deal with it.
