at first I chuckled at the notion of having a fancy gadget in the car, but once I took it for a spin, I was amazed. He bought the Garmin Streetpilot 2660 and I would highly recommend it. You can plug in your start and end address and it will find your destination in a few ways, by fastest route, by shortest route, or by the most economic (gas) route.
The best part was that it told you exactly where to turn about 300 ft ahead and if you veered off course it would say, "Recalculating route, one moment please" and find you a new route.
He told me that the other leading brand, which I do not remember the name at the moment, was not as good. The maps were not always updated and sometimes the coordinates were off. Garmin does a wonderful job of updating their software and maps. I know, because I always help him.
If you have major bucks, I found this super high-tech one for my dad. He said that maybe he would buy it when he retires. Here is the link...
