So who else here thinks that DU should have a Singles Lounge?
I'm very serious about it, and it has nothing to do with sex threads either. REALLY!!!

A thread about a conservative singles site started me thinking about it yesterday. Who else would like to have a safe place they can go to to talk to other singles and meet people you have things in common with? And no, I don't want it because I want to hook up either. I AM hooked up, and quite happily :D

So who's with me? C'mon, I know you're out there, speak up and be heard :P

1. Yup
It would be fun, and I wouldn't have to worry about flirting with someone that is married.

2. Call me a fuddy duddy...
but I don't think we need one. Indeed, I don't think a "singles lounge" would contribute anything to DU. Flirting in the Lounge is fine...happens all the time...and a "singles room" couldn't keep married people out.

JMHO. :-)

4. THere's a democratic singles site
I saw an ad for it at bartcop. I am going to direct my liberal single friends there. I have a couple of girlfriends who will not even entertain the notion of dating a guy who isn't liberal.

5. Well, that's a great idea too
But why NOT have a place here at DU for people to just TALK, not have to worry about all the BS of placing an ad, and wading through who knows how many crappy replies to find one you even care to answer? We have all these forums that nobody posts in, yet we can't have a forum for singles and maybe a little of the more risque stuff that makes the mods all :evilfrown: ?

17. www.actforlove.org
www.actforlove.org is a match site for liiberals. I think it was started by a guy who was on the Draft Clark campaign.

10. Not everyone is comfortable in a chat environment
Chat moves pretty fast at times, and can be somewhat intimidating to some... just saying :P

14. Freepers
Edited on Tue Aug-03-04 05:09 AM by SemiCharmedQuark
I think it could be potentially dangerous. We know the games Freepers like to play. They have no problem taking their beef with liberals off the mainframe and into real life. I have no doubt there's some egotistical self-righteous bastard who would have no problem and nothing better to do than lure a DUer into trust. Besides being emotionally damaging, remember who the Freepers are. When a liberal hates a Freeper, it means we might call them names or make fun of them. Freepers who hate liberals make threats. Emotions run high and when people go deliberately looking for mates their inhibitions tend to be weakened.

15. I think that could probably happen anywhere
And that it's less likely to happen here. That's kinda my point actually.... you go to a online dating site, and who knows what you're setting yourself up for. Go to the many chat rooms all over the Net and same problem. I still think it's a great idea. Potential for problems? Sure, but I think probably less than the other alternatives mentioned above.

16. I think the idea is great, but I agree about the danger...
Maybe someone oculd set up an outside board, with no url posted, and make it password protected. People could be invited to join individually, and newbies would be invited once they were trusted.
