11. My poor Sara was almost passed on to me as an unneutered male
who was called "Barney." This was not okay with me, since this was also the name of my beloved cocker spaniel that I had recently lost. She was rescue and they, obviously, hadn't done their homework. The night before I was supposed to meet her, I got a call. I was told that the paperwork had caught up with her and that "Barney" was actually a spayed female called "Cindy." This was, obviously, not the dogs's name, since she didn't answer to it. It was just a name that she was given to expedite paperwork and she had been scheduled for euthanasia, anyway, at this horrible shelter in Ohio. She was granted a last-minute reprieve and was part of a underground railroad kind of mission to bring dogs to various rescue groups in New York and Vermont, where they have stricter animal protection laws. Sara was a last-minute addition, since she was such a nice dog that the people working there begged that she be included. I tried many names with this dog and chose "Sara," because it is another Stevie Nicks song, like "Rhiannon." When I called her this, she immediately ran across the room, jumped up into my lap and licked my face. I knew that I had discovered her name, or very close to it. This has made life much easier, knowing her name. She is eight years old and knew what she should be called. Thanks for the compliments to my guys. Sara is very sweet and I am so glad to have found this special name for her, which means a lot to both of us. I also like Sarazar.:-)
