15. OK, I'll Be...Umm...Alexander Woolcott
Although some of the other members certainly had good lines:

Robert Sherwood, reviewing cowboy hero Tom Mix: "They say he rides as if he’s part of the horse, but they don’t say which part."

(On Benchley) While on one of his nightly forays, he exited a night club and spotted a beautifully uniformed gentleman at the door whom he commanded to summon a taxicab. The supposed doorman scornfully turned on Benchley, saying that he was Admiral So-And-So of the United States Navy. “All right, then,” said Benchley, “Get us a battleship.”

I walked by the Algonquin last year -- it's still there. Fasinating landmark.

Said guys talk to you, but really they aren't actually talking to you, they are doing something else ( which can't be talked about here in the lounge), or at least that is what Lacan would say. ;)

Camus I love, Sartre I had trouble with. Same with the philosophers. Kant and Hume I inherently get. Foucault, not so much.

52. I always liked Sartre and Kierkegaard
Kant get enough, eh? I think the rationalists and empiricists are interesting. I always liked Berkeley the best for some odd reason. A little easier to read. Foucault is pretty dense. There is a great book my sister has, Philisophy for Dummies ? that gives pretty good funny explanations of each, including Lacan and Foucault.

But DP had all the great lines.

I love that she loathed "Winnie the Pooh". Her comments about it are just hilarious (in her theatre reviews).

Poor Edna-she died from getting drunk, falling down the stairs and hitting her head. Not a good way to go. But she wrote some great poems in the time she was alive.
