Wanting to display bumper stickers...should I get rid of atheist stuff?
I'm an atheist with this cute little fishy on my bumper:

I want to put some anti-Bush/pro-Kerry bumper stickers on my car, but I live in an area infested with fundies. I doubt my bumper stickers will change anyone's mind, but right now it's more important to show solidarity with fellow Kerry supporters than to express my dislike of fundamentalist religion. I can just see the fundies pointing at my bumper and saying, "There goes another sinful, godless liberal." :eyes:

The truth is, when I started thinking for myself, THAT'S when I became a liberal. Thinking for yourself sometimes means leaving your religion...especially fundamentalist religion. Now the fundies that raised me, the fundies I knew since birth, seem cheney-ing crazy to me.

What do you think?

1. My vote - keep the fish
Those who will roll their eyes are already doing it.

2. Take into account your audience
That's what I do. I'd love to have some really trash W stickers on my car, but I feel it is more important to have stickers that will make others think, and may possibly win over a few. So I have three stickers: Jan Judy for Congress (all it says), Save Our Country-Vote Democratic (gotten several positive responses to this one), and Support Our Troops-Vote Kerry (I added the last to a yellow ribbon car magnet).

4. Keep the fish, I love it! If you had "ATHEISM RULES" or something akin
I might suggest that you would want to remove it if you want to appeal to a larger audience (if). But your beautiful little fish is so far over their heads it won't be a detriment to the cause. :D

10. You know actually...keep him
It just dawned on me that most "moderates" (in either party) wouldn't even get the message of your fish!

With that said I would keep it in place!

(sometimes I forget that I am a political junkie)

:)

7. I used to have a "Darwin" fish on my car
It got ripped off of my car within months, and I live in a pretty liberal area. Of course it may have been stolen by someone who liked and wanted it, rather than someone who disagreed. I'd say put whatever you want on your car. Don't be TOO suprised if you get keyed or something, but I like seeing other cars with Kerry/Dem stuff on them, so maybe you can get a few other hidden libs out of the closet in fundyville.

Plus, just because someone believes in evolution doesn't mean they are an atheist.

If you really want to get across that you are an atheist, you need something else.

edit: cleaning up sentences
