Boyo, you'll be the first one in line when they herd us into the camps. :) I'll have to check out the site and see if you can join if you're just a-religious and don't believe in god but do believe in the universe and just don't think you can put a name or face to the numinous. :)

Personally, I prefer Sandy. Texas girl and all. :) "You messed with the bull...no you're gonna get the horns."

13. Shakeys has an awesome buffet in Rochester, MN!
Regarding Dominoes, I have fond memories of a Lollapalooza concert in St. Paul several years ago that had Dominoes stands: The giant electronic sign over the stage had the message: "If you're pro-choice, why the fuck are you eating Dominoes?"

Ministry was awesome at that concert.

The one on Harriet Island in St. Paul! Great show!

I nursed bruises for almost a week from being caught briefly in the mosh pit during Ministry's set. Everything was pretty mellow before they came on, then it turned into Fight Club in the round. Good thing I was absolutely trashed.

Violent and scary, but one hell of a show. Was pretty exhausted by the time Red Hot Chili Peppers came on.

15. Actually Tom Monaghan no longer owns Domino's
He sold Domino's to Bain Capital Inc. for about $1 billion in 1998.
Apparently, he still owns 7% of the company though.

Monaghan has since formed a right-wing version of the ACLU known as the Thomas More Center for Law and Justice. They are designed to carry out Roman Catholic orthodoxy through impact litigation (test cases). Monaghan also formed the Ave Maria School of Law to train future fundamentalists to be armed with law degrees. To complete his troika, he has also formed the Ann Arbor PAC which funnels a great deal of his political contributions to fight the gay community and reproductive freedom.

I made all the crusts every morning. I can verify that I did indeed put sponges in the crust.

YUCK!

All of their pizzas are actually fried in oil. I'd put 1/2 inch of oil in the bottom of the pan, and drop the glob of crust/sponge mixture into it. It would polymerize in the oven and come out somewhat crispy.

26. Pizza Hut varies from franchise to franchise
Sometimes, even from shift to shift. For example, the Pizza Hut across from my high school serves absolute crap during the lunch shift - it's soggy, over-sauced, undercooked drivel.

The night shift, though, is exquisite. Perfectly cooked and the exact blend of crust, sauce, and cheese to make a superb pizza. That Pizza Hut ranks with my two favorite pizza places: Giordano's, a Chicago-area chain, and Gulo's Pizza Paddle, strictly a one-restaurant joint.

As you can tell, I'm a regular pizza connoisseur, being a teenager and all.

47. Mostly Pizza Hut is crap, yes.
One shift at this one joint though... it's just so good. It's not the slimy, greasy toxic waste that comes out of every other Pizza Hut. It's a phenomenon

Okay, I guess the comparison to Giordano's was exaggeration. But just the fact that I even thought to make that shows you how good it is at that point.

I'm not exactly in Chicago, I actually live in Arlington Heights near Buffalo Grove.

Arlington Heights/BG. It has been a while since I have been out that way. I was just back in the North Shore in April, but we spent most of it on I94 in and out of the city.

When I flew in for surgery at Northwestern Memorial downtown, I bribed a nurse to run down the street and pick me up a small from Gino's East. To hell with the nurse (although she was awfully cute), damned if I wasn't going to be that close to fine pizza and not get a slice. Life has it's priorities, right?

29. Domino's is so bad that I generally don't eat it even when it's free
Yuck. Yuck.

I just ate a DeGiorno's frozen pizza -- spinach, mushroom, and garlic -- that was yummy. My favorite frozen pizza would probably be a toss-up among Trader Joe's (of course), the Canadian President's Choice 'fully loaded' pizza, and Amy's (especially the pesto pizza...love that crust), though Wolfgang Puck's and California Pizza Kitchen can also be excellent, if typically overpriced.

Most of the my unfrozen favorites are from small outlets. Used to love CiCi's when I lived within their territory -- $2.99 for all I can eat, including their insanely good spinach and vegetable pizzas. Used to enjoy Pizza Hut, too, though it tends to be exceptionally fatty (chicken one's good) and, unless you get a coupon, too expensive for what it is.

Anybody could make a better pizza at home. Make your own dough. Make your own sauces and toppings. It's not that hard. I like to put shrimp or crawfish in a white, creamy sauce, onions, mushrooms, cayenne pepper, etc. Ever make a Brie cheese pizza?

Most delivery has become that way also.

In our household, we've been getting our pizza fix by using some Indian flatbreads called Roghani Nan (the brand is Kontos). We use our own pizza sauce and much better quality toppings than the chains. They make small (about 7") individual pizzas that are awesome. Be sure to drizzle some good olive oil on while pre-baking the bread. mmmm....

But I voted for Dominoes, knee-jerk reaction! How on EARTH can Sbarros have locations in NEW YORK CIT?!?!?! Y'all need to run them out of town!

I got 2 Dominoes horror stories. Both of these are from South Florida, so, if you are down here, GO WITH PAPA JOHNS OR PIZZA HUT!

1) One time my parents ordered Dominoes, it came and hour and a half late...hardly warm. Needless to say that was the LAST time we ordered their crap!

2) Family friend ordered Dumpinoes and there was a dead frog on her pizza. No, I'm not making this up and don't ask me how in the hell a dead frog got on her pizza! PASS ME THAT 17", I'M HUNGRY NOW!!!

altho, must say I do not order from the big chains too often so can't really give a good comparison to Dominoes, etc.

It's been years since I ordered a Pizza Slut... got one of those four square personal pan things a couple weeks ago (weak moment). omg, if people think this is food... :puke:

the ground beef pebble nuggets were all snouts and entrails tasting, what I define as cheese couldn't be found but there was some orange crap mixed in. and sauceless too - like eating a dry shingle with fake flavouring.

my favourite pizzas are home made. slap some salsa or pizza sauce on a pita or flatbread, use real bona fide cheese and whatever else handy.... mmmmmm mmmm good.

Edited on Wed Aug-04-04 02:42 PM by Merrick
I think Little Caesar's used to be somewhat better about 10 or so years ago. Probably not a coincidence that that was about the time their prices started to come down (maybe they began chinsing on ingredient quality to pursue the cheapskate market?)
Round Table tastes decent, but its pretty greasy and always sends me lurching cross-legged to the toilet about half an hour after I eat it. And I'm not the only one - I've gotten corroboration from others whenever I broach the "Round Table gives me the shits" topic.

65. Pizza Hut gives me digestive problems
My mother was in a Pizza Hut phase (eating there a couple times per week) long enough for me to know that it wasn't just a coincidence.

67. I avoid corporate pizza with much gusto
Edited on Wed Aug-04-04 05:10 PM by JCCyC
I gleefuly order from local, non-chain pizza houses, which are WAYYYYYYY better. Assembly line production has a bad influence in taste.

68. True story about Pizza Hut personal pan pizza.
I was eating lunch at a Pizza Hut one time and was lifting up a piece to take a bite out of it. Something didn't feel right to my fingertips so I looked at the bottom of the crust. A roach was baked into the crust of the personal pan pizza. As soon as I gained my composure I called the server over to my booth. Her attitude was something like "well, what do you want me to do about it?". As though it was an everyday occurrence. Needless to say I haven't eaten at a Pizza Hut since.
