1. Sigh...
I've only been to Sydney, Cairns and Woollongong. What a country. I'd live there in a second.

4. I'm jealous...
Sydney was one of the most beautiful modern cities I've been in (Toronto being the other). In addition to its beauty, it's filled with really nice people. A toast to Sydney. :toast:

5. I have lived in Perth
the capital of Western Australia, the biggest state in Australia, when my husband had to work there. Loved it! I used to go to the gym at the University (UWA).

6. I will never get to Australia
My mother has been there twice, but it is around a 24-hour plane flight. She loved it there, as did my Dad. The farthest I have ever flown was from NYC to Helsinki, the capital of Finland. I began having heart racing, so asked how soon we would be landing, and was told that there were six hours left in the flight! I was advised by this very kind Finnair stewardess, who befriended me, to just remain there, LOL! I made it home, but, after that, and this was well before 9/11, I just know I couldn't stand such a long flight. If you can do it, more power to you. Let us know all about it. I love traveling vicariously!:D

7. Oh, Rhiannon...
sorry flying is so hard for you. But you can get to Australia if you want. Do it short trips. It's expensive, but you can find an itinerary that takes you to Europe to Northern Africa to South Africa to Australia. It's definitely worth dreaming about.

Can I be bold and ask why flying is difficult?

8. I think it's because I am both acrophobic and claustrophobic, LOL!
It never bothered me to fly, until a routine flight from Asheville, NC, to NYC. There was something wrong with the plane and they had to make an emergency landing in Winston-Salem. They kept making announcements over the loudspeaker, but they were unintelligible. Also, I haven't flown since before 9/11. I'm not expecting to have to fly anytime soon, though. My little dog has separation anxiety and totally freaks if I just go outside to put something in the car. I don't like to leave him for very long, he gets so upset.

I do like to dream about re-visiting certain places. I used to love to travel and was relatively fearless. I always planned to return to Russia, which I visited with a peace group, just before the Soviet Union fell, with my grandmother. I would love to return to Ireland or Scotland. They are among the world's most beautiful places. And I spent far too little time in Finland. It is a lovely country and the people were so very kind to a jet-lagged American. I just need to be able to bring my little dog.:-)
