It saddens me to list Janeane Garafolo at the bottom of the AAR list
I just love her. But her show is by far the worst in my opinion.

My rankings

#1 - Al

#2 - Randi

#3 - Malloy

#4 - Morning sedition

#5 - Minority report

7. It's not that I don't like Al...
I think he's great. He's just not my style. I like the attack dog, beat 'em to the ground radio that malloy and randi are so good at. Al is great and has a place, but unfortunately, he's not my 'cuppa'

9. Got it.
That's probably why they have him on at "prime time". He is the tamest of the bunch, but I think he's great because I've always felt that satire - cunning satire - is the sharpest tool against the brain dead.

13. Franken's show just turns me off
Nothing personal. Well, actually it is personal. Personally I just find Franken boring and unprofessional (as a radio personality). You can argue that Janeane is as unprofessional, if not more so, but I like her personality better so I tolerate it more. Janeane's show seems like some college radio show where a couple of people get together and just goof around on the radio.

Morning Sedition is a decent morning radio show and is just something to listen to in the background while doing the morning routine.

Randi I like for her fearless pursuit of the facts. She can be grating and annoying at times, but then I'm used to that kind of Brooklyn personality and, again, I tolerate it pretty well.

Malloy I enjoy the most because he's not there to inform, but to commiserate with me in my anger.

6. My list
#1 - Minority report

#2 - Malloy

#3 - Al

#4 - Morning sedition

#5 - Unfiltered

#6 - Laura Flanders (when I'm not doing something on the weekends.)

Bring The Noise I miss as it's up against my normal goth/industrial shows, which often have a political bent to them as well.

Randi is so totally off-my-radar at this point that it's not funny. I usually take a nap when she's on.

10. What would we have to talk about?
If we all shared the same tastes? Half of DU would be filled with "Agreed" posts and we'd have almost no traffic in the GD forums.

11. My rankings
#1 Randi

#2 Morning Sedition

#3 Unfiltered

#4 Al

I have to get up early so I don't get to listen to Malloy. The best thing about Al's show is the guests. Without the guests, Al would put me to sleep.

12. I'm not really a talk radio fan, but...

Since I'm on sabbatical, I have checked out AAR, which is apparently now number one in Portland, I am happy to report.

My rankings:

#1 - Minority Report

#2 - Morning Sedition

#3 - Unfiltered

#4 - Al

#5 - Malloy

#6 - Randi

Anyway, Al usually puts me to sleep, which is the last thing I expected. Malloy and Randi actually do the same thing in a different way. Overplayed emotion gets rather tiring after a while, as well, though I guess it plays well with many others. It certainly does when it comes to RW radio, anyway.

Randi
Al

that's it. Janeane annoys, I don't get up early enough for the morning stuff here on the west coast, and malloy hasn't caught my interest yet

15. There is a huge gap
Malloy and Rhodes are miles ahead of the rest of AAR. Majority Report is a huge mess, often sounding like bad college radio.

18. Judging by the responses, AAR is a success
because the rankings are all over the place. That means they have a broad based appeal. Fantastic.

17. I like Janeane, but she needs to chill just a bit--
Edited on Wed Aug-04-04 12:59 PM by hlthe2b
she keeps talking over Sam and many of the guests, correcting them on everything so that it becomes ridiculous, and often monopolizes the entire discussion. The fact is is that Janeane is more up to date on most issues and clearly a much more rapid thinker so I can certainly understand why she gets frustrated and tends to dominate. (Sheesh, I hate this, because I have often been guilty of the same. It is hard being a female trying to "assert oneself" into a world that is still so geared towards men).

Because of his celebrity, Franken does the same to Kathryn L. You can certainly tell when Kathryn is getting irritated and frustrated, even though she is overtly cordial and polite. I doubt she'll be able to tolerate playing remote second fiddle for long, though.

By contrast, I think the model for two hosts working well together and complimenting each other is the two Marks on Morning Sedition. Whether you like the show or not, they are working well together.

19. good comments.
I do think that Kathryn Lanpher is the PERFECT foil for Al. I had never heard of her. They act like a married couple.
