over Tori. I know her fans are all very loyal. My problems with her aren't the least bit aesthetic. She's talented, I just can't stand to listen to her. If I'd never heard of Kate, I'd probably have liked Tori, too -- but I had. I grew up in a little tobacco town a few miles from the Ohio River and had access to nothing more than network television and commercial radio up to 1984, and yet I was quite familiar with Kate's work long before 1985, when 'Hounds' came out. I'm inclined to believe that somebody who was a professional musician in the same basic genre, who claims she never heard of her before then (with the TV exposure Kate had), could be guilty of being just a tad disingenuous, that's all.

Even Pete Townshend admits he knocked off the Who's first hit, 'Can't Explain,' from the Kinks. Ani DiFranco doesn't claim she never heard Joni Mitchell before she started recording. That's my whole problem with her.

tee-hee. Reignite some of that female - emo - rock debate. For disclosure purposes I have written some of that type of song myself. I like some of what Tori Amos has written, very emotional. I think she is a classically trained pianist as well. Ani can be over the top, but she can rock as well. And I like the way she plays the guitar. There was a time when I thought she was too much, but I have come around.

I think some of the emotional stuff, if not wrapped in Rock and Roll rough finery ( ala L-7, or Joan Jett or even Chrissie Hynde) just scares or bores people. Weird.

I've loved her since I first heard her. I was in a CD store and they were playing her first CD, which at the time was her only CD. I had to stop and just listen. I asked what CD they were playing, and bought one immediately. I saw her in a concert hall, and she was so intense. Good concert.

I just saw Bare Naked Ladies in concert, and they are great in concert too. Thanks Toronto for sharing them with us in the States. :hippie:
