Help! I need NON-prono photo reference of

"waif-like" girls ages 12 and 13. I'm doing some illustrations of fairies for a children's book publisher, and they want the sprites to look like preteen "waifs" (but not anorexic). I was looking for photo reference through Google images, and much to my extreme dismay, almost every result for "preteen" was nearly pornographic (they were wearing clothes, but provocative clothing. The poses were REALLY disturbing)! I simply can't look anymore.;( Does anyone know of a WHOLESOME website or magazine where I can find for the reference I need?

Maybe they have on online store? I don't have kids, and my friend's children are either much younger or much older than 12 (and mostly boys).

I didn't know what search words to use, so I just tried 'preteen". It was extremely stomach turning. :-(

17. Did a couple of quick image goggles for...

"waif" "faerie" and "fairie" and got lots of stuff. "Moderate safe mode" was on.

Back-to-school advertising is hot and heavy, so the Target, etc, flyers in the Sunday papers should have lots of kids clothes ads.

Be very careful that you don't actually copy the images, or make the kids recognizable. The publisher will tell you more than you want to know about their policy on model releases.

yeah, I'm well aqainted with the copyright laws. I do a lot of illustrations for Disney, and when I draw Mary Poppins for them, she has to look like Julie Andrews, but NOT like Julie Andrews at the same time because of our contracts with her (Dick van Dyke can look like himself; different kind of contract).

Hairstyle, hair, eye, and skin color will all be changed, and somewhat idealized; plus they'll be in watercolor, which isn't the most precise medium,so I think I'll be OK. ;-)

Another thought is simply the fashion mags. The heroin chic look is out, but from what I've seen leafing through the ads in the Sunday NYT magazine and Fashions of the Times, the waif look never went too far away.

Big-eyed 13 year old anorectic models never seem to go out of style for some reason, even though they remind me of pictures of holocaust survivors and African refugee camps.

Oddly well-dressed refugees.
