An atypical but nevertheless beautiful love letter.
Although the following is not a typical love letter, it expresses a profound truth and I think it beautiful. It is a letter to the Editor of the Toronto Star from a reader who addresses the recent statements the Vatican made about feminism. The writer cherishes his wife's liberated attiude and makes the brilliant observation that "celibates should not pontificate on things they know nothing about". Below the letter is a short poem by William Blake that sums up so poigently the pain religious institutions inflict on humanity by their pious inhumanity.

Liberated attitude enriches marriage:

The Vatican's statement that feminism "attempts to erase gender differences" is absolutely ridiculous. My wife of 40 years, Monique, is a liberated woman, and her attitude and strengths have enriched our marriage. Celibates who are totally out of touch with the realities of today, and do not understand the meaningful, and rich interpersonal relationship between a man and a woman, should not pontificate on things they know nothing about. Ironically, on our 40th anniversary, we had our union blessed in a Catholic church. Is it really the same institution we belong to? With these ridiculous statements emanating from Rome, it makes one wonder.

The Garden of Love

I went to the Garden of Love.
And saw what I never had seen:
A Chapel was built in the midst,
Where I used to play on the green.

And the gates of this Chapel were shut,
And "Thou Shalt Not", writ over the door;
So I turn'd to the Garden of Love,
That so many sweet flowers bore,

And I saw it filled with graves,
And tomb-stones where flowers should be:
And Priests in black gowns, were walking their rounds,
And binding with briars, my joys & desires.

1. Sane people should not be allowed to treat the mentally ill
That's a job that can only be performed by another mentally ill person.

2. Morticians should be required to be deceased
Only another dead person can know how to treat a dead body with dignity
