my dog has gland problems...
i had a post that was deleted or locked (why, I don't really 'get'). It was a genuine honest question, as I see a lot of pet talk here on Lounge.
sorry if I 'misused' a couple words.... I'm really in need of advice here.

3. okay, now that we've all been serious
(and I have a zoo too, so I'm an old "hand" so to speak, ack sorry 'bout the pun)

THAT LINK! I almost peed in my pants. I know it's serious but grab the hand and the napkin with your cursor and go to town!

Oh my stars and garters.

2. Every Bath Day...
Which is about once every 10-14 days. If you're gentle it ought not hurt them. If they have any excessive musky-stuff in their glands, then it should come out pretty easily. If nothing comes out, then don't force it or squeeze too hard.

I wait until we're actually starting to wash her rear end and tail before gently squeezing the outer edge of her rectum... at the 4:00 and 8:00 positions. Her glands are about the size of a kidney bean (if that)... but she's a small dog. If there's any excessive liquid, then it dribbles right out. (And hold your breath.... it smells HORRIBLE!) I bathe her in the tub so I have the shower hoze sprayer ready to rinse it off and down the drain quickly.

I've never needed to do anything other than squeeze on the outside to get productive results. One thing I've noticed though is when her bowel movements are dark and firm, her glands empty themselves and there's no "build-up"... but whenever she's been snacking on too much table-food, her bowel movements are softer and not as dark, and that's when her anal glands become full.

I hope this wasn't too gross and maybe it was helpful to someone.

5. thank you....
Milo has been getting more table food than normal lately.... I'll keep a good check on that from now on.

He is part Corgy (medium dog with short lil legs, hahahah, he's so cute) and lab or retriever. I know that some dogs are much more prone to this problem than others.

He is such a sweety trusting thing. That's why my handle is what it is - my dog is one of my many heros. :)

13. Sounds delightful!
We just got thru with a pissing on the bed and rug stage, culminating in a $200 visit to the vet.

This sounds even more enjoyable, though. hope it gets resolved soon!
