I am pathetic - I'm still working on my taxes for 2003
We got an extension because we we moved on April 12. Then one thing led to another, it slipped my mind, then Alan died, and now all of a sudden, it's almost August 15.

The worst part is, I can't even find Alan's W2 now.:(

And I have an accountant doing the work! All I need to do is get him the stuff. This has not been a good year. I'm at least trying to laugh about this aspect of it, though. :D

1. You can get a W2 reissue relatively quickly from his employer
Edited on Wed Aug-04-04 05:12 PM by Misunderestimator
You can definitely get it before the deadline.

2. His employer should be able to get you a copy of his W-2.
Good luck! You should get that nice tax break for the house, though. :-)

5. Me too
I think I (with some help) can get them done by the 15th. My accountant tells me I can file for another extension. I figure if I do, I will have successfully spent most of the year with my 2003 taxes hanging over my head. Will I ever learn to get them done in January? I doubt it... I'm a masochist at heart...

9. I'm a geek who always gets my taxes done before the end of February.
I got audited once... when I was about 22 and made maybe $18,000 that year (assholes)... they wanted another $300 from me! I brought them all my receipts and records and after SIX months they finally sent me a bill for $0. Incredible.

11. This is so minor in terms of what you have dealt with
You'll get them done. Ask for new copies. I have asked a time or two. Good luck and just get them done.

12. I found his W2 and it drove me into a complete tailspin
I had to leave the house. I just went driving and ended up at University Village, where I proceeded to buy a Jessica Simpson body spray at Sephora (this is how far I've fallen, folks) and some more yoga clothes at Lucy. The retail therapy helped a little.

Seeing his W2 there like that just broke my heart, it was awful.

And now I can't find any of the fucking 1099s. I know he put them in a file somewhere, but I have no idea where they are. Goddamn it, goddamn it all to bloody hell....

31. get another extension
to October 15, take a breath, and then dig in. Getting the new extension is nothing - and it will take the pressure off of you.

And if it makes you feel better, I will be extending my extensions, and I don't have any good excuse.

well, my vodka tonic and chips/salsa have helped me! :) Now I just have to remember to file that damned extension to my extension before I leave town next week, or I'll REALLY be up a creek. :scared:

Be sure to take some time to do something nice for yourself before you even think about taxes.
