Poll question: Which resort better for a 30ish married couple: Hedonism or Sandals?
Edited on Wed Aug-04-04 08:03 PM by Taverner
Going off on a vacation with wifey - sans Nate (the little dude).

So we're debating between going to Hedonism or Sandals - anyone here been to either?

Oh - and on edit: tell me why one is better :)

1. One thing about Sandals --
They only allow heterosexual couples (married and not). No gay couples allowed, period.
I guess that doesn't affect you personally, but if you don't want to support the policy, I'd recommend something else. (I've never been to either, so I can't make a recommendation.)

2. That would be a policy that bothers me...
I'm not gay but I wouldn't like to support a policy like that - how the hell do they enforce it tho?

13. Same way they enforced it at my high school's Homecoming...
When you bought the tickets, there's space for "Girl's info" and "Boy's info" on the registration form. If you tried to cross out the gender references, they wouldn't let you go, nor would they let you enter if the person coming in (especially a date from another school) didn't match the person on the form. (This was theoretically for security purposes.) There were no single registrations -- you had to come with an opposite-sex date.

The only way around this would have been for a female couple and a male couple to register as two male-female couples for the purpose of entry. (I'm sure one could do that at Sandals, too, but why?)

My high school has long since abolished the policy, and now allows people to come as singles, with a friend or in a couple (and pay the same amount per person regardless -- no $25 single, $35 couple...)

3. AFAIK
Hedonism is for singles who go there to get wasted 24-7 and fuck like crazed weasels-- often with strangers.

Sandals is for couples.

On my Jamaican honeymoon we shared a minibus with a bunch of Hedonism-bound people going from the airport to the resort. They were buying bags of ganga in the airport parking lot, smoking and drinking up a storm on the bus--rowdy as hell.

Ten days later we also shared a bus with Hedonism folks, returning to the airport. What a subdued bunch-- nary a peep out of them-- we figured they had left a few brain cells behind and were more than a little hung over.

7. I love that expression
I stole it from Matt Groening, creator of "The Simpsons"-- in his comic book- "Love Is Hell". That, along with "Work Is Hell", are classics.

6. I have been to both
It depends on what kind of vacation you want to have...if you know what I mean.

:)

You can't really compare them.

8. Well say I want the monogamous romantic vacation...
Edited on Wed Aug-04-04 08:48 PM by Taverner
with the wife, but with friendly couples all around who aren't freepers or retired....but neither one of us is that opposed to ganja or copious amounts of alchohol either...and we'd like dancing if its around.

9. Well, if Jamaica hasn't changed much since 1990
Ganga seemed to be available EVERYWHERE!! And most everyone seemed to be there to drink and party.

10. Ummm
You do know that Hedonism is a great big swing club don't you? It isn't very "romantic" unless your idea of romance is having sex with strangers every day.

:)

12. I Hadn't Heard Hedonism Is Full of Swingers
I have heard (from my travel agent friend) that the ratio is 4 or 5 men for each woman, and that it's a total sucker play (for the guys), though.

14. You want Amsterdam instead
Especially the no freepers part. Very refreshing.

Is my favorite spot for vacation. Especially the summers in Holland.

11. Have you considered
something different from the all-enclusive resort? I liked just renting a cottage on the beach better.

15. Sandals Bans Gay Couples
They don't just "discourage" gay couples... they LITERALLY BAN them. Perhaps this is an agreeable practice for some folks, but do you really want to support a business that discriminates as a matter of POLICY??

I'm not making this up. This is an easy one to google and get confirmation.
