Don't let the bed bugs bite
Did anybody ever say that to you when you were a kid?

Last night I was awakened around midnight by the feeling of something crawling on my arm. I sat up and saw something dark moving along the headboard, I grabbed a book and wacked it. When I turned on the light, there was the hairy leg of some insect stuck to the book, it was about an inch and a half long. I don't know where the rest of the bug went. I'm afraid there's a stumpy water bug out there looking for revenge.

:scared:

1. Yep. They said that to me all the time.
As soon as I moved out on my own, I was bitten in bed by what turned out to be a black widow. Which is just about one of the most unpleasant bug bites one can get.

At the time, the little thought in the back of my head told me "if only my mother reminded me not to let them bite, I wouldn't have gotten bit." :o

2. Weren't bed bugs
"Adult bed bugs are about 1/4 inch long and reddish brown, with oval, flattened bodies. The immatures (nymphs) resemble the adults, but are smaller and somewhat lighter in color. "

http://www.uky.edu/Agriculture/Entomology/entfacts/struct/ef636.htm

But, the critters are resurging in the US:

"In recent years, bed bugs have also made a comeback in the U.S. They are increasingly being encountered in homes, apartments, hotels, motels, dormitories, shelters and modes of transport. International travel has undoubtedly contributed to the resurgence of bed bugs in this country. Changes in modern pest control practice - and less effective bed bug pesticides - are other factors suspected for the recurrence."

5. I would say that to my son
and then I thought yuck, what is this, some medieval warning? Sort of like when you think about what the tyrics to Rock A Bye Baby mean.

6. My mom used to say that to me. Never said it to my kids
because they are so literal they would be up all night afraid of getting bit by bedbugs.

Both of my kids sleep with blankets over their heads because one of their science teachers told them that spiders will crawl into their mouths at night.

7. What should I arm myself with when I return home for my bug hunt tonight?

I don't think a rolled up newspaper is going to do it?
