NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — A former porn star known as Barbi Korvette, Slavegirl or Dimii Darkangel was awarded custody of her 3-year-old daughter by a judge who ordered that she not participate in the porn industry.

Comal County Court-at-Law Judge Charles Stephens made his ruling Wednesday in a divorce case, in which Laura Carney's husband, Patrick Carney, tried to gain custody of their daughter.

"We've spent more time talking about pornography and porn stars instead of focusing on what we should, a beautiful 3 1/2-year-old girl," Stephens said in his ruling, as reported in Thursday's San Antonio Express-News.

Is she any worse than the thousands of people who work in the defense industry, creating weaponry that blows brown-skinned children to bits every day of the year on orders of our government? Is she any worse than the thousands of people who work to sell cigarettes to our children, dooming many of them to lung cancer in their later years?

I'm sorry, but what passes for *respectable* in this country is a sad joke. The natural sex act is criminalized as perverted while the learned act of slaughtering people is somehow seen as normal. Hell, I have no problem with what some might term *unnatural* sex acts.

If people are involved in porn, that rules everything. Will we ever see an article about a custody battle where the media feels obliged to report, "Mr Smith, who seeks custody of his three children, has spent his life developing cluster bombs, the same bombs that maim and kill thousands of children in Iraq every year"?
