Damnit, if I'm suppose to eat Brocoli then make it taste better!!
I'm eating a salad for lunch. As I'm struggling to still lose weight I am attempting to eat more vegetables. Mind you my salad pretty much consists of Romaine Lettuce, Carrots & grilled chicken with some sort of low-fat dressing on the side. I'm a very bland person when it comes to food.

But this week I decide that I'm going to force myself to learn to eat more vegetables and I put a few cucumbers and pieces of brocoli on my salad.

Well everything is gone except the cucs and brocoli but damnit, I'm going to eat them even if it kills me.

It's ok that I use water to wash down this crappy food isn't it? I mean, I had that first piece of brocoli and I almost gagged it back up.

2. You did dip the broccoli in the dressing right?
Use ranch dressing - nothing covers up the flavor of broccoli like ranch.

16. Fat free dressing not necessarily the best option.
You might be forcing down the Broccoli but not getting all the healthy benefits without some fat to help your body absorb the nutrients.

July 27, 2004 -- Eating your salad or carrot sticks with a little fatty salad dressing may actually be better for your health than pouring on the fat-free stuff.

A new study shows that eating fresh vegetables with a little fat, such as oil-based salad dressings or cheese, helps the body absorb valuable nutrients found in vegetables, such as lycopene and beta-carotene, which have been shown to help prevent heart disease and cancer.

In contrast, eating a salad without any fat in it may deprive your body of these healthy nutrients, which are known as carotenoids.

"We're certainly not advocating a high-fat diet, or one filled with full-fat salad dressing," says researcher Wendy White, associate professor of food science and nutrition at Iowa State University, in a news release. "Our findings are actually consistent with U.S. dietary guidelines, which support a moderate diet, rather than one very low, in fat.

4. I don't think there's any way to make raw broccoli more enticing
I like mine steamed or simmered in butter... but that defeats the purpose.

I can't do diets at all... it's either working out 5 times a week or chubbiness.

Good luck to you - I admire your courage! And yeah, the water helps immensely with losing weight, so drink up. :)

then again he was told he was pretty much a solid with his cholesterol level. He ate stuff he hated immensly but still ate it. Me, if I don't like the taste I won't eat it, but I'm trying to change that habit

I can't get the Mr to eat any veggies at all. I may not eat them raw ('cept for greens tomatoes cukes etc) but if it's green he won't go near it.

Good on ya for trying new things. I did that recently and actually ate two... count 'em - TWO brussels sprouts.

8. You should never eat raw broccoli!
It's a waste. our bodies can't digest the cellulose. It always needs to be cooked or steamed.

You should get an account, if you're at all interested. It's a really educational site, with good health & nutrition discussion forums.

Gary just got a new set-up, and we can have our own free blogs now, too.

My town has one of the largest Armenian populations in the country. We have several Mideastern markets/bakeries within a few blocks. Nevertheless, I've never heard of Armenian cucumbers; maybe I'll look for them.

20. I don't think cucumbers have that much nutritional value so maybe

you shouldn't force yourself to eat them. Broccoli is another matter because it is really good for you.

My husband thought broccoli was awful when we married but he'd only been served overcooked broccoli. He now loves properly-cooked broccoli. He still doesn't much like raw broccoli, though, although the only way he'll eat spinach is raw.

I suggest you try raw spinach in salads but if raw broccoli in salads doesn't appeal, try steaming it or stir-frying it. Spinach is also good kind of stir-fry steamed. Need more info on seasoning?

23. I always feel bad for people who are picky eaters
I don't mean that as a slam, it's just that I find almost all foods tasty in some way (I'm talking veggies and fruits and stuff, not bull balls).
I love munching on raw broccoli, but there has to be other veggies you do like that you can eat.

31. I'm just curious, do you happen to consume a lot of

sugars/milk/caffeinated drinks/alcohol?

Some foods can create a real aversion to veggies, because they're so expansive and relaxing -- and veggies, being mostly water, don't provide much balance to them.

(The proper balance to such expansive, weakening foods would be animal proteins and salty foods, for strength and contraction... )

If you're eating a lot of those first kinds of foods I mentioned, you should cut back on them for a while, and see if the veggies start tasting better!

35. Put Pepper On Them
Especially with cukes, they taste really good with pepper. Of course, i like them as is, but adding a little spice might help.

For broccoli, try adding just a splash of vinegar. No oil. Vinegar is almost calorie free, since the acetic acid content is only about 4%. Just a splash won't add enough salt to matter. This will add a little tartness to offset the slight bitters in broccoli.

See if that works. If not, you're on your own.

Now, you're not leaving that table until you finish those vegetables, young lady! (Did that help?)

I can't think of the name of them right now, but these are the size and shape of asperagus spears, except they're broccoli.

They're supposed to have a milder flavor and not be as tough.

I love veggies, but I'm not a huge broccoli fan. I love cucumbers though. Can't get enough of them. Same with most squash.
