Granite monument from Alabama exhibited by veterans groupBefore stepping onto a flatbed truck to gaze upon a 5,300-pound granite monument of the Ten Commandments, Willia Davis said she believed there was ''spiritual warfare'' going on in the country.
The Nashville woman was among dozens who lined up yesterday afternoon and looked at the monolith, which was ordered out of an Alabama courthouse two years ago.
A veterans group is driving the stone across the country, holding rallies to promote ''God and country.'' Rallies were held yesterday at The Factory in Franklin and the Franklin Friendship Methodist Church.
''They took this monument out of a courthouse. They've taken prayer out of schools, and we can't even say a blessing in public anymore,'' Davis said. ''Even the government is turning against God and taking our rights away from us.''
Former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore was ousted last year by his state's Court of the Judiciary for refusing to remove the stone from the rotunda of the Alabama Supreme Court. He is appealing to the U.S. Supreme Court to reclaim his job.
What do you do with a 2.5ton useless piece of granite forced by the Supreme Court to be removed from government propertly - give it a tour of the United States. Geez, probably the same thing they did with that Golden Calf that was made while Moses was receiving the original 10 Commandments:
"Hey, Moses condemned us for making this and ordered us to get rid of it. Let's take it on a tour to other nomandic tribes wandering the desert"
