1. My mom used to make the best cherry pie w/lattice crust. MMM.
And her chicken and dumplings were out of this world.

2. my mother made a damned good chicken cacciatore
Even if I can't spell it, I sure remember how good it was.

I miss my Grandma's fried chicken, too. But I don't miss the greasy doorknobs in her house when she made it.

6. Kale and pinkelwurst -
we actually had that for thanksgiving one year :-)

As a kid I HATED it - and now it is one of the few things I have really missed since I went veggie.

Others: corned beef (god i miss a good reuben)

rouladin (sp?) - mom used to pound steak flat with flour and roll it around a dill pickle, wrap it in bacon and brown it then simmer in a red wine sauce.

8. Bianca Mangada
Don't quote me on the spelling but it's a pudding made out corn starch and milk, with German sweet chocolate scrappings that coat the bottom and the top. Right out of the oven is best.

9. cornbread.......fried okra........turnip greens
I buy the same cornmeal and I sure think I am doing everything else the same, but something is missing.

My mom wasn't a fancy cook, and her health was so poor the last few years of her life she didn't cook hardly anything: but I will never forget the way her cornbread, okra, and greens tasted.

11. Well, in my case it would be my DAD!
My dad is an excellent cook. There is nothing he ever made that was not wonderful. Let's just say mom prefered working outside the home than doing domestic stuff. Her talent as far as cooking was to take the leftovers from the week and make a wonderful meal out of it. But she doesn't like to cook. My dad still loves to. Ham, turkey dinner, cornish hens, goulash, you name it--he can make just about anything. We live far away and I miss his cooking. I cook the most like him of all the kids but still not quite as good as dad!

Rouladen: tenderized round steak wrapped around bacon and onions, sealed with a toothpick, and browned in a Dutch oven. Yum.
