I met Jim Hightower last night!
:bounce:

He was at an Austin For Kerry event, selling his new bok. I got to shake his hand, take a picture and get my copy of his new book signed.

THEN, we went over to the bookstore where he was having another book signing. VelmaD and I registered 12 new voters and helped sell a bunch of Kerry stuff!

Only one Bush-bot all night!

:bounce:

1. Jim Hightower is a great American and patriot.
I'm a big admirer of him. I'm glad you got to meet him.

And kudos to you and Velma! Registering 12 more people...great!!!

5. Woohoo!!!!
Three cheers for mom-in-law!

Let me say that Book People in Austin is ultra-badass for allowing us to register voters while sitting at a partisan table. Most retailers want non-partisan voter registration, which is fine, but Book People is so cool to let us sell Kerry stuff AND register voters!!

9. I adore that place!
We hopped in for awhile before we met you guys the other night. I want one of the "Boot Bush" welcome mats!

The "Axis of Weasels" little finger puppets were funny too. We got a new bumper sticker and a "Keep Austin Weird" sticker too.

Congrats on the signups guys!

I'm volunteering at an event in Oak Cliff on Saturday. A combo Back to school/Voter Reg thing. They're going to have lots of donated school supplies and clothes for the kids, plus they're giving them haircuts, etc.

Once I get all kick butt at the registration process, I'll be able to take it on the road. I haven't had any of the green cards, so it's been a little harder until now.

Yay David and Velma!

7. It still boggles my mind that Hightower could have EVER held state office
...in Texas. But I'm glad he did. :)

Good on you and VelmaD - you guys are making a difference.

8. He was (and still is) VERY pro-farmer/rancher.
He's an old-time populist, and those kind of folks could get elected back then. Now, with the rise of the suburban DeLay-bots, it would be harder. But, I bet if he ran, he could win.

10. He would make a great Secretary of Agriculture in the Kerry Administration
It's wishful thinking, I know.

But, oh boy. The small farmer would have a good friend in the Kerry Administration. :-)

11. Hooo-boy...that would be entertaining as hell!
Jim gives it to the Democrats who take too much of a shine to corporate interests, too. He gets in a dig at Daschle in the new book. Daschle deserved it, too.

16. It was a typical Bush-bot hit and run.
She was walking out of Book People, passed our table, and said over her shoulder, "By the way, we're voting for Bush." Typical weasel, had to get it in on her way out, instead of on her way in, like someone who really was strongly in favor of her candidate.

We got WAY more positive reponse than negative, which is to be expected, I guess, but it was nice anyway.
