I'm walking up Lexington near 51st and this guy is pacing sideways on the sidewalk even though there are lots of people on it. From a distance you can see this guy screwing people up, just oblivious. And I'm thinking 'someone's going to run into him.' And just as I get up near him a construction worker comes barreling out of the hotel entrance with what looks to be a heavy tool box on his shoulder; metal box full of metal tools. The construction guy can't see to his right because the toolbox is there. The cellphone guy does one more turn which puts him right in this guy's path and Pow!
Toolbox into cellphone - cellphone into head - it drops to the sidewalk and shatters. Cellphone guy goes down and the construction guy says "are you okay?" but keeps on walking at top speed.
I don't hate cellphones or most of their users but do they have to pace across the sidewalk? Or stop on the subway stairs?
People walking around oblviously like that piss me off...The city is crowded enough without morons not paying attention where they're walking...Maybe he learned a hard lesson, though I suspect not...
. . .and it is an addiction. Addicts I know can't wait to get those damn things out to make calls (or whatever) the minute they are released from surroundings where they can't use them. It's like people who are dying to light up after being in non-smoking environments. Can't wait for some psychologist to identify this neurotic behavior as a bona fide psychological aberration.
