Our dogs had a fight today...some blood...

Heidi and Bailey got into it today over a rawhide bone. When we finally got them separated there was blood on the bone - apparently from Bailey.

We put Heidi in the other room and put the gate up between them. When Paul took them outside they seemed to get along OK.

Normal or something to worry about?

It's more scary for us than them.

after the prize (rawhide bone) is gone, they'll make up.

Actually the blood on the bone could have been from chewing on the rawhide, sometimes they scrape their gums.

Our dogs have always challenged each other and sometimes gotten into little fights (that sound and look awful) over rawhides and other treats.

chewing. I get two bones, one for each. They still argue for the other one's bone. Must be a territorial thing.

4. Bailey...

Hordes the bones. He can't stand it if one of the other girls has it and takes it from them. Then, when he has them all, he barks at them if they don't try to take it away. He's a very odd dog.

6. That sounds like my dogs.

I give Duka and Annie a chewie every morning. Duka doesn't really like them, but he will take it just to keep it away from Annie. He just lays there and guards it. Then, when he gets distracted, Annie runs over and takes it from him.

7. Two dogs mean you need

THREE Rawhides. One for the Alpha, one for the beta, and one for the Alpha to steal ;-)

8. no more raw hide treats, only give them things they can eat right away

if you don't, and give each a raw hide bone, one dog will it his right away & the other might not, and when the one who ate his goes for the remaining one, trouble starts.

i have 6 dogs and long ago stopped giving them any bones that take them more than a minute to consume.

9. I'm not sure that drawing blood is good.

I have two dogs. One is 14, the other is a puppy (5 months). They are both female. There is alot of alfa positioning going on. The pup is looking to challenge the older dog's position. So there is pushing and nipping and growling but no bad fights. I find with the rawhide bones that each want the other's bone. Even if they have their own bone, the want the other bone. The worst fighting that goes on in my house is over those bones. I would give the bones a rest and keep my eye on those two.:-)
