My dog died yesterday.
He was just a mutt named Snoppy, but I loved that boy. He was 12 years old,had a good life. He loved to eat,and have his ears scratched. He was my shadow,I couldn't turn around with that fool dog getting in my way.

my old guy passed away last November. He was 15 and much, much loved. He was a minature dachshund named Nicky. I haven't gotten a new guy yet but I hope to sometime soon. I still miss him horribly though. It helps to talk about him. It was just age-related liver failure. I cried buckets afterwards and for a long time afterwards. And I'm the type of person who eats nails for breakfast but not where my dogs are concerned.

22. I hope this link will help.
The writer who lost her beloved dog suggests a little memorial service with friends to remember your pal and say final goodbye. For anyone who has experienced the depth of connection one can have with a pet your sorrow is perfectly understandable. Your grief is an expression of the tremendous connection you shared with Snoopy and losing such a connection is profoundly painful.

Especially one who never questions and who just loves and loves you. I've been there. Think about the good times and after awhile, get another dog. I did and I'm gland I did.

15. I lost my first corgi dog
HoneyBear over a year ago but I wanted to share something with you. It doesn't happen too often anymore but when she first passed on I could swear I heard her bark every now and then. I always liked to believe it was her telling me she's OK and still watching.

Listen for Snoopy.

16. He was a goofy looking dog, with a goofy name.
But me and him bonded right away. He howled when I left, and howled when I got home. He could eat all day,and ask for more. I don't know how thoe skinny legs carried all that food, but he could do it.

17. my condolences Swede.......losing a pet is more heartbreaking
than losing a human loved one. People have a concept of death and we all know we will die someday. Animals have no idea of death, maybe that is why we love them so much. For all the Snoppy's and Buddies and and what ever they are named, "They Are Gone But Not Forgotten".

28. Not a baby.
Human. With emotions. I would be worried if you *didn't* feel anything. Your memories will help heal the hurt you feel now. And some day when you are ready, another dog will come along to steal your heart.

Edited on Fri Aug-06-04 10:09 PM by Wcross
Some people say dogs are like family, but they are are so wrong. My brother never ran up the driveway, tail wagging when he heard my car at the gate. My sister never ran up to me and licked my face after not seeing me for a spell. My mother never sat patiently at my side just to be near me.My father never barked into the night "just to be sure".

No. those people do not know dogs. Dogs are much more than family and you were much more to Snoopy than he could have ever wished for.

I am so sorry for your loss.

Don't feel "guilty" about your feelings, they show that you really loved Snoopy and you deserved his love.

I've got three (2 rescues) and I cry about how much I love them and they are young dogs!!!!

They are our guardian angels on earth and, I would like to think, even in death.

It is such a tragedy that their lifespans are only a fraction of ours. To me, dogs are the best companion a human being could ever hope to have. My condolences!

ago when she was 16, and I still expect to see her when I return home. As soon as the election is over and I decide once and for all where I'll be living, I'm going to get another dog from the animal shelter.
