I have a cat poo problem!
I posted this once many mothns ago, but it's still a problem. It's my cat! Since he was a kitten he has been playing with his crap. He is a year old now, but continues to play with it. I try to clean his litter box regularly, but i'm not always home to catch it in time. He takes his poo out of the box and rolls it around on the floor. I have a litter box with a cover. I tried to give him small toys to take the place of his poo, but he is not interested. A friend recommended using a spray bottle to give him a squirt when he starts doing it, but i don't want to teach him to be afraid of his litter box. What can i do?

Thanks!

1. Maybe he has fun poo.
My damn cat won't go into his box until I've scooped the poo out.

5. They are about 100 bucks
But you may want to invest in one of those automatic cat boxes that rake the litter everytime the cat goes. My mother in law had one for her cat and it worked well for her.

7. he may be exhibiting signs of "coprophagy"
animals sometimes consume feces because their diet doesn't include the enzymes in a "normal"diet.

enzymes are destroyed above 140*F, so processed foods cannot provide enzymes, which aid in digestion.

enzyme supp's can be bought @ the grocery store (bromelain/propaine), crushed into food.

my cat's enjoy an occasional "cat salad", i clip grass before mowing & make these clippings available. provides enzymes & roughage to help pass hairballs. NOTE: sometimes they do throw up the hair rather than passing it, but that's rare.

8. Ask at the pet shop
if they have any kind of pill that you can add to his food to make it distasteful. They have them for dogs I don't know if it's for cats too but yours can't be the only cat with a poo habit.

11. Adolph's meat tenderizer
Put a tiny pinch in each meal. That may make his poop unattractive enough to break the habit, and should be safe for a kitty. Also consider his diet. Sometimes switching to a more premium food can help.

12. did you elevate the box? I think I suggested that one before
(and might be the one who scared you about associating squirt gun with litter box----tho if you do it when he's PLAYING with the poo, maybe it would be ok at this point).
