How many here like old music recordings?
I don't mean "old" like Beatles or disco.

I mean stuff recorded a hundred years ago, or even older.

This site:

www.tinfoil.com

Has great music files to listen to from that time, when records were on tinfoil or wax cylinders.

1. I have a collection of old sheet music from the early 20th century
Including "In My Merry Oldsmobile." Very cool site - thanks!

2. My pleasure.
I love hearing those recordings, most of them were recorded entirely without electric anything.

Then my neighbor down the road puts on the latest Brittney Spears and ruins my mood.

4. I also have lots of glass lantern slides, etc.
I have a real fascination with that time period. Man, hearing that stuff is really cool. Thanks again!:hi:

3. Great website, isn't it?
Once I get back to work and have caught up on my outstanding bills, I plan to order some of their CDs.

9. Google Is Your Friend!

Try Googling such phrases as "play 78's" "plays 78's" "play 78 RPM" "plays 78 rpm" "handles 78" "handle 78" "78 player" etc.

You can also do the same with eBay! Don't give up! I have a 78 with my grandfather singing, recorded back in the 30's. Haven't heard it in years. I think I'll give my friend Mike a call. He may have a player. He does a webcast radio show on ACB Radio called Mike's 78 decade (IIRC) or something like that. Maybe it's 78's Decades with Mike Gorman... Anyway, he LOVES 78's and plays them online.

8. Hey, I'm 44.
I have the right to call the Beatles "old." :-)

7. One of my main concerns when buying my new turntable...
...was that it be able to play 78s.

I adore old music. Both the commercially recorded (e.g. the Harry Smith "Anthology of American Folk Music" and the recently released gospel box "Goodbye Babylon") and the non-commercial (the Lomax recordings for the Library of Congress).
