Do you have more than one location in your house for your pet
to eat? Am I insane? We have three indoor/outdoor cats, and one strictly outdoor (well, garage w/kitty door outdoor kinda cat) but for the indoor/outdoor kids there are 5 separate spots for them to eat (though only one -- the kitchen -- for moist food). Kibble and water dishes abound in my home. 1 litterbox in the summer, 2 in the winter.

How about you guys?

1. One place to eat but two to drink.
When my cat, David, was dying of kidney failure, it really helped him to drink from conveniently-located stemware. After David was gone, my surviving cat, Isis, and the newcomer, Lucky, liked the water at the window so we kept it, especially since Lucky torments Isis and she can't always get to the regular place for food and water.

2. We used to
But now that we have small children, the food was removed from the kitchen, so now there remains one feline only dining room, which doubles as the laundry room.

3. Oh yes,
Three cats. One food bowl in the laundry room, one in the kitchen and one in the dining room. Water dishes in the garage, the kitchen, and both upstairs bathrooms.

And with all that food and water around, the cats prefer eating out of a cat food bag on the kitchen counter that they've chewed holes in and drinking out of the bathroom faucet while I'm brushing my teeth.

Go figure.

4. my dogs are fed at different places . . .
in fact, they're not even on the same floor . . . just to avoid any potential problems . . .

5. No, but when my "grand-dogs" visit, they have their own water bowls,

to keep everybody happy.

6. My dogs always eat and drink in the same place, in the kitchen.
They always know where to find their food and water. The same has been true for the cats, in another part of the house, away from the dogs, and their litter boxes always remain in the same place. I did find one thing amusing, however. With two dogs and two cats, nobody ever wanted to drink out of his/her own dish. My cocker spaniel, Barney, always drank out of my other dog's dish, so I put his bigger water dish on her food mat. My other little cocker, Samantha, liked to go to the other side of the house to drink from the cats' water dish. As for my two cats, Rhiannon and Angela, they came full circle and drank from Barney's water dish in the kitchen. I was just looking at a photo, tonight, of Rhiannon doing this. As long as they were drinking, I didn't care where they did it, and I found their behavior both puzzling and amusing.:-)

You are not insane. Your animals, like mine, march to the beat of a different drummer. Would we change them, if we could? I wouldn't.

7. I have two separate feeding spots for my two guyz
strategically positioned...only because the younger one (mr. sensitive stomach) eats the older one's food, and gacks. the older guy is on a weight control diet and his kibble has too too much fiber for mr. skinny/sensi tummy guy. it's kind of a pain, but they are too far apart in age to both eat the same diet (one is 4, the other 13) Litter box, they share, not enough room for two.

21. I had a similar problem with Barney and Sam
When I adopted Samantha, I was told that I could probably never feed her in the same room as anybody else, she was so possessive about her food. I started out feeding her separately, but gradually brought her into the kitchen. I fed the two dogs on separate sides of the room, with me standing guard in between. The only incidents were my fault. I dropped my guard. I was very fortunate in Barney. He had such a wonderful temperament that he would never reciprocate aggression, though he was twice Samantha's size when I first adopted her. I also had to be careful, since they were both on different prescription diets. The amazing thing was that I could leave dry food out for them all the time and each only ate his/her own.

How's your little guy doing, anyway?:hi:

10. Yup, I figured as much...
no kids, never have any intention of having my own offspring, so I vent my limited maternal instincts on the cats...

Now they don't even wanna walk upstairs in the morning. They all have separate beds in our full basement (can't get any sleep unless they're shut downstairs), and one of them always zooms upstairs as soon as the door opens, but the other two now just patiently wait for me to walk down and carry them upstairs. And I love it. ;-) The word "SUCKER" must be scrawled on my forehead in kitty writing...

9. My cat has only one place to eat
I have a circular table in the kitchen upon which is placed his dry food dish, his tartar-control treat dish, his milk dish, his babyfood treat dish, his water fountain, and a fake flower centerpiece that I tried removing once but he cried so much that I had to put it back. To easily access this table from the floor, he has a two-story kitty condo and a scratching post.
So he only has this one place and to give him another would just spoil him, don't ya think? ;-)

11. Fake flowers?
That is too funny. As is the condo/scratching post stairway for him. You absolutely mustn't put his food anywhere else, no matter how much he asks, or he'll surely think you are a pushover! ;-)

14. Even when I'm eating something he likes
And he starts eating off the same plate, I direct him back to his table before I give him some of my food. It's tough love, I know, but if you don't discipline these animals they'll walk all over you and not just when you're trying to sleep either.

12. 2 to drink, 1 to eat
We originally just had one water dish for him in the kitchen. We spend most of our time upstairs though. He rarely goes downstairs if we are upstairs or upstairs if we are downstairs. We thought that it would be best if there was water in both areas.

13. Not for eating, but for sleeping.
Ace-the-cat is a nomad.
About every 10 days he picks a new "favorite place".
Maybe he's Bedouin?

15. Heh! Chamisa Has Her Own Bedroom @ Nite!

We've redone the guest room to be "kitten safe" and hse has her very own "den", bed, Crackle-Sack, litter pan, food bowls etc in there. Not only *that* but she has *another* litterbox here in the computer room/library and another food station in the living room!

She has almost the complete run of the house (main bedroom shut off because we have *very* climbable lace curtains in there!) but at night, 11:00 PM regular as clockwork, Chammie runs to her bedroom and mews for me to turn on her night light and close the door so she can sleep!

In return for our pampering, she's a most considerate feline! She wakes up early, but is quiet in her bedroom until she hears our voices! Then she clamors to be let out. If we sleep in, she's quiet!

What a GREAT little catlet!

20. No, but they prefer any water but what's in their bowl
I have two cats that get to wander around outside on the deck. They think the water in the watering can for the plants, or in the bottom of the pots, is better than the water in the house. And, if I'm changing the water in the fish tank, they think the dirty fish water is pretty tasty. I even bought them the pet fountain with a filter, which they like, but not as much as the water from anywhere else.

22. please! I have a dog with food hostility issues, I constantly change the
locations of the food & water bowls. they're all over the house and yard... just to keep it all interesting. That way the OCD dog can't stand guard over the food and prevent the other kids from eating...
