Anyone have freinds who got famous and started acting snooty?
I saw an old pal on wednesday who had acheived a bit of fame and he acted really standoffish. I really wanted to pull him aside and remind him of all the dirt I could dish - a lot of history, laundry, etc. - but restrained myself. Musicians. They are always a pain, but REALLY monsters when they actually DO become rock stars.

1. It's a shame that your "friend" became that way
But I bet there are plenty of examples of people who became famous and stayed down to earth.

As for the person you wrote about, fuck him and the horse he rode in on. Where does he get of treating people that way? If he does that to you again you should remind him where he came from, what his roots are.

4. I agree! Pleasantly goofy, and easy to mock.
That's it for me; my old ass needs sleep. 'night!

5. My one "famous" friend
Edited on Sun Aug-08-04 03:03 AM by Jen6
is one of the nicest and most thoughtful people I know, but sometimes it seems like he's giving me the brush off when really it's just that he's overwhelmed with work, interviews, appearances, etc. He still goes out of his way for me when he can.

I am nervous, though. He just signed a MAJOR publishing contract, and is poised to become far more famous than he has been. I urged him to sign it, but I'm worried that my friend of 20 years will fade away if things get too crazy.

I had a coworker once who was college roommates with Gwen Stephani's(sp?) brother, and knew No Doubt well before they became famous. No Doubt used to come to visit him at our studio from time to time, and THEY were nice, down to earth people, but my coworker was the one who turned into a jackass over their fame! He would always buy up loads of their merchandise when they came to town, then get them all to sign it so he could sell it on eBay. He never invited them over to his home or offered to take them out to eat when they visited, and I know their feelings were hurt when he didn't even tell them he had a second child when they were last in town for a tour.I suppose a lot of famous people get used that way by old friends.

8. Yes.
I went to school with Parker Posey, (except then she was called "Missy Posey"). I saw her in a bar after she started becoming a rising star and I said..."Hey Missy, how's it going?"

She replied, very snobbily, "My name is Parker now"...rolled eyes and everything.

I had just spent the last three years living in Germany. How the hell was I supposed to know she changed her name.

9. MANY of my classmates

have made names for themselves in the entertainment industry. Snootiness doesn't faze me as money and fame do affect perception. What disturbs me is when a paticular level is reached where "the rules don't apply to ME anymore." I've seen it over and over again and find it frightening and distressing.
