Why is being a liberal more fun?
Any opinions?

Is it more fun to be a liberal than a conservative because you aren't necessarily beholden to stereotypes?

Because you feel you can speak your mind more freely?

Especially those of you who were once conservative, do you generally enjoy life/have more fun now as a liberal?

4. You know
I KNOW this is a generalization and anecdotal but of everyone I know for whom I know a bit about their sex life AND I know their liberal or conservative status, I have to honestly say the liberals seem happier with that aspect of their lives AND less inhibited, ergo more likely to have fun.

Ta-da!!!!

5. You walk down the street
say hi to the kid with spiked hair & tattoos, see a gay couple holding hands, and a black kid playing ball with a Mexican kid, both speaking Spanish. Can you imagine what that looks like through the eyes of a conservative?

11. Good point
I think one of the most liberating things about being liberal is the lack of fear.

I've never felt fearful of things or people that are different from me/my worldview. They just are. Different doesn't mean scary.

And I've always greatly enjoyed variety in life. If there's anything I would consider absolute HELL on earth, it would be to be surrounded by people who look like me, talk like me, act like me, etc. Not that I am self-loathing, but I really enjoy variety in people and life.

6. Liberals can go to Amsterdam and have beaucoup fun without any guilt
Conservatives, on the other hand, are relegated to Branson, Mo.

I love it.

I am spiritual as well and I know exactly what you mean. You kind of take it all with a grain of salt.

I like to say I have a spiritual heart and soul but an atheist's mind. I think it should be that way.

14. Yeah its just I dont have a problem with prematrial sex and all that
I am also not gonna tell women they cant have abortions either, I dont like abortion but I am not for banning it. There's also the fact that when I am around liberal people, I can discuss sex without being forced to feel like I am sick, and sometimes I feel like the normal one!, and some of my right wing friends have considered me a perv for years because I am open. There's also the fact that conservatives are kind of geeky when you think about it, liberals are more funner people generally, I am a non PC liberal so I curse, I eat like a pig, etc, you know a non sterotype heh well I got a minor case of hippy hair but other than that I dont really fit the sterotype, now that is another thread.

15. We're raising our daughter
who is almost 10, to have a non-uptight attitude toward human sexuality. NOT that we are encouraging anything!! No. But there is no need at all for people to be so uptight about things. Sexuality is human. No biggie. And we want her to be very well-informed, so she'll never be able to be duped by other people into believing things that aren't true.

Good for you and others like you, I say. I am an eighth-grade teacher and I noticed kids are much more well-informed than they were when I was younger. We still have a ways to go, but we're getting there.

(I teach in a district with abstinece only sex ed, guess how successful that has been? NOT.)

10. Well, I was a teenage conservative
which is far worse than being a teenage werewolf let me tell you. And yes, it's a thousand times more fun being liberal, even if there are lots of frustrations that come from knowing that there are so many dickheads in America.

The main reason that I think liberals have more fun is that we encourage experimentation, openness, freedom, and hope. Conservatives emphisize fear, aggression, and abhore change. Everything with them is competition. With liberals, we at least try and look beyond the competition. We may not always succeed, but at least we try. We believe that there is more to life than making money, watching football, and reading the bible. When conservatives look at the world, they see it in terms of "Who am I competing against?" When liberals look at the world, they see it in terms of "What can I learn? What's fun around here? What kind of people can I meet? Where are the cool places to go?"

13. The way you describe
liberals makes them seem child-like. Note I didn't say "childISH", but child-like. Big difference and it was a big compliment. Child-like doesn't mean lacking in sophistication or intelligence but open-minded, eager for new experiences, etc. Your last couple of lines were great.

26. better drugs ? (kidding)
Especially those of you who were once conservative, do you generally enjoy life/have more fun now as a liberal?

Actually, in answer to this, yes, I have more fun now but it's a correlation thing not a cause-and-effect thing. When I was a conservative/libertarian, I was insecure and more of a fear-based person. It wasn't the politics that caused me to have less fun. It was the fear that caused me to 1) have less fun and 2) be more conservative because of a need for simple answers as a security blanket. You will find this in many libertarians, especially -- a need for a very simple explanation of how the world works without any ability to tolerate nuance.

As a liberal I have more fun, not because I'm a liberal, but because the same ability to learn, grow, and open to new ideas that helped me develop more progressive ideas is the kind of change that has allowed me to relax and just have fun without always being suspicious and on guard.

Does this make sense?
