1. Going with good works. You should see what they want for a good altar.

3. In the words of Albert Einstein...
"A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death." -- Albert Einstein

Being responsible for one's own behavior without threat of punishment was a new concept for me once I tossed out my ineffective and untrue religion. Sometimes I still struggle, but I do the best I can. When it comes right down to it, I am responsible only to myself for the decisions I make and the things I do.

7. God wants us to all pay lower taxes!
Jesus would also make sure those Welfare Queens got off their butts and did some work for a change. God is also against single-payer healthcare.

8. The world's spiritual traditions
all talk about the importance of good works. I think that good works is something for everyone to aspire to, even those who don't believe in God-in fact, it may be more important for them, because to them this is the only world, and there is only their lifetime. I'd be interested in hearing from atheists to see if this reasoning is close to their feelings or note. Besides, I feel that no matter what one's feeling about God, doing good works makes one feel better about onesself.

As to God and what God wishes us to do-here's a Sufi standpoint, from a hadith (saying of the Prophet)-"I was a hidden treasure who longed to be known"....so from my standpoint, the point of life is to know God. Doing good works is part of gaining that knowledge, imho.

11. I believe that "attaining self knowledge" is the end to which
all the others are the means. Even helping the less fortunate, finding forgiveness, all of that, are paths to the true self (whch is the Universal Self, right?) If that's not God, a place where all are one, then life seems rather pointless. IMHO.
