I can see Fall from here
it's close, school starts in a couple of weeks, our trees are losing some leaves already. With all the rain we've had this year it ought to be a great year for color. Every day brings us one day closer to running this gang of thieves out, good things are coming.

1. Fall?
It's August 8th. Fall is more than six weeks away. Here in the Kansas City area the leaves don't start turning until the end of September, at the earliest. Heck, a few years ago we had a major snowstorm in October, and because all of the trees were still fully leafed out, the destruction was tremendous.

At least for the most part we're having a lovely summer, with not many super hot days, for which I'm happy.

2. Yes Fall
It's been very cool here in Northern Cal., after a unusually warm March , unusual cool for us,for 20+ years and others, farm talk last week was "we need degree days" aka heat in the mid west. I think it will be an early Fall temp wise. It's the West's turn to get "watered", a cooler Winter does this usually.

4. How to ripen tomatoes
Just rip off the leaves at the vine, all of them, except the very top. In 2 weeks all the maters will be red ripe. I learned this trick when I lived in Northeastern Vt. land of green tomatoes very few ripen by frost, as there are 70 frost free days. I had all my maters ripen after I removed the leaves..no more green tomato relish, a staple in Vt.
