1. The "real"
Trapper John was a native of my hometown! (Greensboro, NC).

Isn't Wayne Rogers a stock market analyst for CNBC?

2. His name popped in papers here a year or two ago
He was a major investor in a chain of convienence stores (E-Z Serve) that went bankrupt. They literally just locked the doors one night and everything in the store sat there until it could be liquidated by the courts--I imagine the milk got a little ripe.

3. Maybe. He's done very well in the financial sector.
I've heard conflicting stories as to why he left M*A*S*H - one being the focus shifting to Hawkeye, and the other being that he was doing so well with investments that he left acting to focus on finances.

5. I don't know about the "investments" theory.
A few years after he left M*A*S*H, Wayne Rogers turned up in a new sitcom called "House Calls." If memory serves, he co-starred with Lynn Redgrave.

Of course, Rogers may have initially left M*A*S*H to pursue his investments and found it necessrary to return to TV after one or two bad ones!

9. I remember that show.
I don't remember where I heard that thing about his financial acumen. Maybe it was a combination of both?
