Action star Cherles Bronson dead
Charles Bronson, the Pennsylvania coal miner who drifted into films as a villain and became a hard-faced action star, notably in the popular "Death Wish" vengeance movies, has died. He was 81.

Bronson died Saturday of pneumonia at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with his wife at his bedside, publicist Lori Jonas said. He had been in the hospital for weeks, Jonas said.

1. Time to run "Once Upon a Time In the West,"
then, and lift a cowboy hat to the coal miner-turned-actor...

2. thats sad
I think he grew up in the same town as my grandparents too, Johnstown,PA, and my grandparents also had coal mining famlies, I loved him as Danny the Tunnel King in the great escape, I was happy to see him break out and not be caught.

the Dirty Dozen. He and Lee Marvin are the only 2 to survive the mission. It was said the he had Alzheimers and didn't even remember that he was once a world famous actor at the end.

19. Watched it again last week, it's a great movie
A mainstream action movie with an an incredibly well-written script (a thing of the past) and a fantastic cast Bronson, Marvin, Jim Brown, Telly Savalas, John Cassavetes (I think that DeNiro picked up a lot of his tics from Cassavetes' performance), but...what in the hell was Trini Lopez doing in the cast?

11. The Mechanic
oddly enough that was my favorite film starring CB. Story about a hit man, who gets doublecrossed by his apprentice, with a very classic ending.

15. Oh Yea!
It's a great ending. I won't spoil it - if you haven't seen The Mechanic, you need to see it. All the other double-cross movies have yet to top it.

17. Great movie!
The Mechanic is a classic.

And do you remember when everybody's grandma had the hots for Charles Bronson? LOL!

I was really sad for him when Jill Ireland died. She was extremely beautiful.

RIP Charles; you've earned it.

12. Bad run for the Magnificent Seven of late
Edited on Sun Aug-31-03 10:30 PM by caledoni
Recently along with Charles Bronson, there was James Coburn, Horst Bucholz and Brad Dexter departed. So who's left? Robert Vaughn and Eli Wallach?

28. What? Coburn's gone too?
Damn! I was kinda shocked by this. I had no idea he was 81; I would've guessed about 70. Bronson was one guy that would be on my "see all his movies" list.

14. Hard Times
with the late James Coburn was a great flick about a bare-knuckle boxer in the Depression era. I loved it. One of my young cousins worked with him in Death Wish and said he was nuts about kids.

18. He Was One Of My Favorites. I Have An Autographed Photo...
... that he signed for me about 4 years ago. "For Allen. All the Best, Charles Bronson"

It could have been a secretary signature... but still... it was good that someone replied.

My favorite film that he starred in was "Great Escape".

21. I've never been that nuts about Bronson

Most of the Bronson films that I've seen ("Death Wish," "The Evil That Men Do," and "Kinjite," for example) showed such contempt for the Constitution, I always came out of them wanting to take a shower.

23. I just finished watching "The Great Escape" not two hours ago
Charles Bronson played Danny "Tunnel King"

He must have been in his mid-40's when he made that movie. Man, he was ripped.

24. I always liked him...
I thought he was pretty HOT especially about 20-30 years ago. My favorite movie he did was "Lola" it was different then most of his movies, more light almost comedic. "Lola" was filmed in London and NYC, Bronson is an American business man who falls in love with an English school girl, marries her and brings her with him to the US. It was a cute movie but not well known and though I have seen it many times on the late late show, it hasn't been shown for years and years. :-(

R-I-P Charles Bronson O8)

27. My mom was a big fan because he
was Lithuanian...I don't think she even saw many of his films except for the great escape...

I liked some of his movies...the older ones but the death wish ones were not my cup of tea.
