I've gone through 3 Kerry/Edwards signs
I've got a freeper in my neighborhood or some type of sign eating animal. I've had three signs removed from my front lawn. I was keeping them down by the road so that more cars would se them, but after the first two were taken, I moved it up towards my house. It was only 10 feet from my front door and last night it was removed. I called the police after the second sign was taken and they were pretty blunt that there was nothing they could do. They have had several complaints of both Bush and Kerry signs being taken or otherwise tampered with. A large Kerry sign at a bar was sliced up and one of the cops told me that a Bush bumper sticker was painted over with spray paint. This is plain stupid.

I'm pretty ticked off. This is my last sign. Its an old one from the primary campaign. I need to get another Kerry/Edwards sign (I thought three would be enough for the lawn and both cars). I'm going to put the Kerry sign my front window tonight. I hate this bullshit. Why can't people grow up.

1. When I went in to donate and pick up some signs and..
buttons at the local Democrat headquarters, the person running the show told me that people were afraid of the bumper stickers due to reports of people's cars being vandalized, keying, etc.

Bastards. I would never do that to Bush sporting Repug. It just shows one how low they can be.

2. mount it with a wooden pole and then slather the pole with crisco
...worked for me...

I would also recommend putting it in a well lit area...perhaps put a motion sensitive spot light there...and then it will scare the hell out of the twit taking it...

9. Crisco huh, sounds good to me
I never thought of that. I'm heading down to the Kerry Westchester office Wednesday to get a few more signs. I'm going to let them know about it too. I'll try the Crisco thing.

12. I did it and it gave the person taking the sign such a nasty suprise
that all future signs in my yard remained perfectly in place.

My husband wanted to wire it up ...but electrocuting someone isn't my style and I don't want to go to prison.

13. yeah, electrocution might be a bit much
but the crisco is a great idea. I like the idea of something smelly or tobasco sauce mixed with crisco. that will really drive them crazy.

16. tobasco or other hot pepper sauce - will stay on their skin

20. Maybe dig a moat around the sign.
Nothing too obvious, just a nice, mooshy mud puddle, so they get muddy up to their knees if they try to snatch your sign.

3. People are such jerks
I want to believe that kids are the ones who do these things, because it's awful to think adults would do something so immature and ridiculous with their time.

10. I don't think its kids
I think its an adult. Its just an educated guess, but I don;t think kids would venture up close to my house. the signs I put down on the street were about 120 feet away from my house, the last one was right up near the house. I think its a neighbor of mine. There are dozens of Bush signs around, I think its one of them.

4. Can you put the sign ON your house?
I've had to do that before. Just remove the stick, put it someplace on your house in plain view. It worked for me. Nobody wanted to try getting that close.

11. Last night it was only 10 feet from my door.
Thats over 100 feet from the street. Someone walked up over 100 feet of lawn or driveway and took the sign. The sign was within the range of my front door light sensor, bso once they got close the light would have gone off. that didn't scare them off.

5. Only freepers steal, lie, and cheat. I wouldn't dare to go on somebody's

property and take something they put there. I would hate to have to look at a Bush/Cheney sign, but this is a free country. They have the right to support incompetent assholes.

Could you put it on top of your roof or some place out of reach? Or maybe you could rub something really foul smelling on it so the next time they touch it it smells up their hands and their car. Or how about rubbing habanero pepper juice all over it. Who ever touches it and then rubs his/her eyes, will really hurt. However, this might be dangerous if you have kids playing with it...so, I wouldn't recommend this one...

Freepers really hate America and our Democracy. They have no room for dissent or a difference in opinions. I guess their brain function is so low that they just can't deal with anything that involves critical thinking.

8. I simply put Kerry/Edwards Bumper Stickers
on yard signs I have for local candidates (school board, cty. commission, etc..). Since most of the freepers in my area are politically ignorant and can't see the forest for the trees.....it has worked for me.

14. Why don't you bring it in at night?
It doesn't really "advertise" at night anyway.

It's a pain, but easier than having to get more signs.

21. The most effective tactic
in the long run is to keep on replacing the sign. And maybe write letters to the local newspaper, saying you cannot understand how the party of morality and responsibility could possibly condone this.

I've had signs taken or vandalized, and I just put new ones out.

My "No More Bushit" bumper sticker tends to keep people from messing with the car, although perhaps it's as much the part of the country I live in. Kansas, for what that's worth.
