Is 'Hey Ya' by Outkast influenced by The Pixies?

'Outkast's smash it "Hey Ya" was reportedly inspired by Andre 3000's discovery of bands like The Pixies and The Ramones. You might guess the reference to the Pixies by reading the lyrics. '

-There's a bizarre theory for you.

1. isn't everything influenced by the Pixies?
It's like when we were using the Cable (comcast) music channel at a friend's last night and on the screen for Julian Lennon it had the following factoid:

"Julian was influenced by the songwriting of his dad."

no shit, really?

2. True, but when bands like Outkast are influenced by them,
my mind is boggled. In a good way.

11. hey, Outtkast is brilliant
that's a catchy, catchy tune, and whoever wrote it knew their music, which leads me to believe that they heard everything that came out of the 90's at least.

8. A greatly underrated record.
The last 2 Pixies albums sounded so unlike Come on Pilgrim, Surfer Rosa, and Doolittle that many people don't "get" them.

I like both Bossanova and Trompe le Monde better than Doolittle, which, although still a damn fine album, remains my least favorite Pixies record.

9. I also love Trompe le Monde. It has a technicolour quality I dig.
It's also a great sounding record, muscular but melodic.

10. yes, trompe le monde and bossanova are my two favorites
as a youngster, tompe le monde was the first album i was introduced to the pixies with.

bossanova just rocks. i read that bossanova was recorded with "surf guitar music" in mind. i completely hear that now, at first i did not notice.

12. "Bossanova" was always Black Francis' favorite Pixies record.
Don't know what he thinks now, but that was the case 10 years ago.

6. I always thought of it as a rock song rather than r n' b.
I think it sounds a little like the Violent Femmes too.

14. Andre 3000 is a dick
I heard him say something like if you download any of their songs you are a crook and you should have to buy their CD in order to listen to it.

17. god, what a fucking asshole
can you imagine someone wanting to get paid for their work? I mean I know I work for free, just last week I went out and told my boss "hey, that's ok, keep the paycheck, I'm working for free now!"

And then I walked into a Gap, and walked out with a new pair of khakis, for FREE! why pay? only assholes insist on being paid for their property.

downloading music, without paying for it, without the permission of the copyright holder is theft. get used to it.
