The names of 16 men convicted of soliciting prostitution have gone up in big, bold letters on billboards in central Omaha.
The billboards are part of an offensive by several neighborhood associations southwest of downtown Omaha to stop prostitution by outing the men who pay for it.
The billboards are located at 3511 Leavenworth St., 708 S. 42nd St., 2780 Harney St., 3823 Leavenworth St., and at 36th and Center Streets.
Four of the billboards have three names apiece. The fifth has four names, so passersby would have to view all five billboards to see the entire list.
The men were convicted between Nov. 25, 2003, and Jan. 21, 2004. Their names will remain on the billboards until Sept. 6.
Jan Quinley of the Ford Birthsite Neighborhood Association said she is sorry 'that it had to come to this." But prostitution is not a victimless crime, she said.
