Best Concert you never went to
or band you've never seen but always wanted to.

Mine is R.E.M.

They played at a small theatre in Milwaukee in 1986 2 blocks from my apartment and I blew it off as I didn't want to spend $10.00. They never came back except for huge outdoor shows (Alpine Valey) and I never got the chance to see them again.

Sigh...

3. I blew off seeing Muddy Waters in the early 80's
Edited on Mon Aug-09-04 03:44 PM by lunabush
He played my area with regularity. Instead, I visited a friend in another college town.

Within a few weeks he was dead, obviously never to return to my area.

:sigh:

One of my few life regrets.

edited time frame, forgot dates, looked them up.

4. PiL in Seattle, 1982, I think it was.
I was in college in Missoula and instead of going to see PiL (Keith Levene was still with the band, and they had just released the last of their three great studio albums and thereafter began to suck badly), I ended up blowing my free money on, oh, something very stupid like the Who's first farewell tour (awful!).

Anyway, it was a wonderful show, I hear, my friends were right up at the state, got to talk to John Lydon, Levene, et al., and brought me back a great tape of what in my mind is a legendary show.

5. Mine is R.E.M., too.
It was the fall 1994 "Monster" tour (their last one with Bill Berry). Some one-hit-wonder called Radiohead was opening for them. The show was on a weeknight and I was in 8th grade, so my mom wouldn't let me go.

Another one was when Smashing Pumpkins played in my hometown in 1997. I had tickets for the show, but I also had the worst case of the flu in my life so I had to miss that one, too.

Yet another was when the Flaming Lips played in my hometown shortly before "Yoshimi" came out. I couldn't get off work.

Yep, my concert luck is pretty shitty.

9. Sorry to rub it in, but I saw that REM tour.
Radiohead opened, then Natalie Merchant, then REM.

It was good. :-)

10. Yes, I'm sure it was......*sigh*
Radiohead cannot do a bad show, and REM is maybe the most under-appreciated rock band of the last decade. I don't think they've ever made a subpar album in their entire career, and from what I've seen in videos and on DVD they're amazing live.

8. The Posies.....
{{{sigh}}}

My friend Helen worked for a label back in the early 90s. I had a copy of Dear 23, and really liked it, but she missed telling me they were coming to town, and I got into some psychodrama with my back-and-forth ex/current boyfriend that night.

She got to drive them around, they ate together, hung out before and after the show, just had an all around blast, and I fucking MISSED IT!!! She even kept in touch with them, writing, calling, etc--being all super buds with them afterwards.

And she kept telling me that they were so goofy, and that I had such an identical sense of humor to them that I would have had such a great time out with them...she wished I'd been there....ARGH!

And considering what a complete waste the ex turned out to be, and what a diehard fan I became after Frosting On the Beater, it makes me doubly mad.

But predictably, nothing near Dallas.

It wouldn't be quite the same as hanging out with the band and all anyway. My semi-groupie/hanging out days are over.

:-(

14. Woodstock
I was a bit too young to be going to concerts back then, but I nagged and nagged and nagged my Mom, and I just about had her cracking when it started to rain, and the stories about hippies playing naked in the mud put the kibbosh on my getting to see it.

But I did get to hear Jimi Hendrix's Star Spangled Banner waft over the mountain.

In the old DC stadium, downtown. Stevie Wonder opened. Awesome!

Opps! I read the original post wrong. The Stones was a concert I DID go to.

Best one I didn't go to was Woodstock, of course.
