Attn Chicago area DUers: Anybody interested in Sunday, Sept. 5 gathering?

I know it's Labor Day weekend, but is anybody going to be around? If there's enough interest, I'm sure we could pull something together.

What, I don't know at this point. I know some talked about a picnic. Instead of going outside the city, why not have it on the lakefront? South of the McCormick Center is pretty good and usually has free parking spaces available. Lincoln Park also is good, but parking can be more problematic.

Or, we could meet at our Irish standby or somewhere new. I'm not particular. Let's see who's interested and available and then figure out the rest.

Seems to work best for most. We usually start mid-afternoon. Things usually break up around 9, but people just come and go as their schedule allows.

I had suggested meeting up at Moody's, but apparently bars are no longer popular. I'd pretty much given up, since I hadn't heard any one mention anything about it since my last thread. :-(

I'm not sure it's the best place for meeting. But if people meet there, I won't pass up the chance to eat their burgers with good liberals.

Not like we ever leave or anything. The only place we might have plans is at our friends' in Indiana. They have a tendency to claim holidays, but I haven't heard anything from them about any parties.

Don't worry about horning in, I don't think there's any such thing in this case. I had been perfectly willing to plan the whole thing before, but nobody seemed to want meet in a bar and I wasn't really up to researching suburban and city park sites, not to mention permits and transportation, etc...

Don't do much public picnicking these days being the vampire that I am. I tend to rely on my friends who have houses with backyards & grills for my outdoor eating and drinking needs. Clean-up's a lot easier that way. ;-)

i might be back in town, but doubt i'll be able to move after a 2 week trip. driving to maine with the family. hopping a bus down for the convention. i promise i will be pooped.
however, we have had a couple of threads going in the illinois forum trying to set something up. it's better, cuz it moves a little slower. there is supposed to be a meetup scheduled for next wed- the 18th (i think)
and my all time favorite place is goose island. lots of parking, plus cta and metra access.
