Poll question: Creative Writing or Guitar 101?
I've got the time for one non-credit class at the local community college, I've narrowed down the choices to two that I really like.

8. Already got a BA, no need for econometric foolishness.
This is for fun, not torture.

2. Guitar
Come the New Depression, at least you can work up a few tunes and panhandle when we're all homeless.

3. Spanish! There will be 26 countries with better economies than ours
If Bush is reelected, and the majority of them speak Spanish. Why fight it.

4. Go guitar.
But that's just me. I've been a published writer and a musician (still am the latter, though very poorly paid ;)) and when I get asked to write these days the answer is a firm "Thanks, no...," but when I'm bored, there's always my guitar there - and it's way more stimulating creatively than staring at a blank page in MS Word wondering where the hell to begin. It can be immense fun on a lazy summer day to sit out on the porch and figure out how to play a favorite tune.

Also in guitar's favor: the effort-to-effect ratio. If you're looking to put your ideas out into the world, it's not that hard to get 100-150 people out to a club or an open mic to hear your ideas, but try getting that many people to read a story you wrote.

6. I started playing guitar in my early thirties
and I never regretted it (and I love playing Hendrix tunes). It is a great hobby. :-)

7. Passing this one to my oldest son,
a musician and a wanna-be writer.

He may not be the best one to ask, since he taught himself how to play the guitar. But he says....

Choose the one that is closest to your heart. For him, it's music. He's good with words, and he loves them, but considers music as necessary as oxygen. So he writes more songs than stories.

Choose the one you can see yourself doing, not just for the class, but for the rest of your life.

9. I took creative writing once
It was fun, we all wrote shit then sat around and talked about each other's works. Some of it was awsome.
I actually failed that class.

Look at me now...bwhahahaha.

(I failed because I didn't hand in one big assignment
