4. Here Comes President Kill Again - XTC
Edited on Tue Aug-10-04 10:37 AM by Screaming Lord Byron
Here comes President Kill again,
surrounded by all of his killing men.
Telling us who, why, where and when,
President Kill wants killing again.
Hooray, ring out the bells,
King Conscience is dead.
Hooray, now back in your cells,
we've President Kill instead.
Here comes President Kill again.
Broadcasting from his killing den.
Dressed in pounds and dollars and yen,
President Kill wants killing again.
Hooray, hang out the flags,
Queen Caring is dead.
Hooray, we'll stack body bags,
for President Kill instead.
Ain't democracy wonderful,
them Russians can't win!
Ain't democracy wonderful?
Lets us vote someone like that in.
Here comes President Kill again,
from pure White House to Number 10.
Taking lives with a smoking pen,
President Kill wants killing again.
Hooray, everything's great,
now President Kill is dead.
Hooray, I'll bet you can't wait,
to vote for President Kill instead...

7. Devo
I heard a girl in a dress
Say her face was a mess
I heard there’s no reason why
I heard that now’s the time to buy

On planet earth
I’ll probably stay
On planet earth
It’s a place to live your life

Where pleasure follows pain
People go insane
Fly around in planes
Pray that it won’t rain
Drive around in cars
Get drunk in local bars
Dream of being stars
Well I lived all my life on planet earth

I saw a girl lose all control
When she lost her new mink stole
I saw her try to catch a man
Things I couldn’t understand

On planet earth
I’ll probably stay
On planet earth
It’s a place to live your life

Where pleasure follows pain
People go insane
Fly around in planes
Pray that it won’t rain
Drive around in cars
Get drunk in local bars
Dream of being stars
Well I lived all my life on planet earth

I saw a man on a stage
Scream put me back in my cage
I saw him hang by his tie
I saw enough to make me cry
On planet earth
On planet earth

I lived all my life on planet earth
I lived all my life on planet earth
On planet earth
(repeat)

10. 80's band, 90's song - REM - Ignoreland.
These bastards stole their power from the victims of the us v. them years,
Wrecking all things virtuous and true
The undermining social democratic downhill slide into abysmal
Lost lamb off the precipice into the trickle down runoff pool
They hypnotised the summer, 1979
Marched into the capital brooding duplicitous, wicked and able, media-ready,
Heartless, and labeled. super us citizen, super achiever,
Mega ultra power dosing. relax
Defense, defense, defense, defense. yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, ignoreland. yeah, yeah, yeah, ignoreland
Yeah, yeah, yeah

The information nation took their clues from all the sound-bite gluttons
1980, 84, 88, 92 too, too
How to be what you can be, jump jam junking your energies
How to walk in dignity with throw up on your shoes
They amplified the autumn, 1979
Calculate the capital, up the republic my skinny ass
Tv tells a million lies. the paper’s terrified to report
Anything that isn’t handed on a presidential spoon,
I’m just profoundly frustrated by all this. so, fuck you, man (fuck ’em)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, ignoreland. yeah, yeah, yeah, ignoreland
If they weren’t there we would have created them. maybe, it’s true,
But I’m resentful all the same. someone’s got to take the blame
I know that this is vitriol. no solution, spleen-venting,
But I feel better having screamed. don’t you?
They desecrated winter, 1979
Capital collateral. brooding duplicitous, wicked and able, media-ready,
Heartless, and labeled. super us citizen, super achiever,
Mega ultra power dosing. relax
Defense, defense, defense, defense. yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, ignoreland. yeah, yeah, yeah, ignoreland
Yeah, yeah, yeah, ignoreland. yeah, yeah, yeah
I did not do the revolution
Thank you

14. We could fill this with XTC lyrics, of course.
(from Living Through Another Cuba)
This phenomenon happens every 20 years or so
if they're not careful your watch won't be the
only thing with a radioactive glow
I'll stick my fingers in my ears
and hope they make it up before too late
if we get through this lot alright
they're due for replay, 1998

Since 2001 I have been marvelling at how well that song describes these pricks. Comforting to know that nothing really changes, that this crop is probably just as bad, not worse, than the Nixonites, than the reaganites, than all of their kind.

63. Or President Gas-Psychedelic Furs
you have to have a party
when you're in a state like this
you can really move it all
you have to vote and change
you have to get right out of it
like out of all this mess
you'll say yeah to anything
if you believe all this but
don't cry, don't do anything
no lies, back in the government
no tears, party time is here again
president gas is up for president
line up, put your kisses down
say yeah, say yes again
stand up, there's a head count
president gas on everything but roller skates
it's sick the price of medicine
stand up, we'll put you on your feet again
open up your eyes
just to check that your asleep again
president gas is president gas again
he comes in from the left sometimes
he comes in from the right
it's so heavily advertised that he wants you and i
it's a real cowboy set, electric company
every day is happy days
it's hell without the sin, but
don't cry, don't do anything
no lies, back in the government
no tears, party time is here again
president gas is up for president
line up, put your kisses down
say yeah, say yes again
stand up, there's a head count
president gas on everything but roller skates
it's sick the price of medicine
stand up, we'll put you on your feet again
open up your eyes just to check that your asleep again
president gas is president gas again
president gas
oh, president gas
whoa, president gas
oh, president gas
whoa, president gas
oh, president gas
whoa, president gas

15. 'Sight and Touch' by Chris De Burgh
It's kind of a pastiche on '1984'.

My girl wakes in her bed at night
Dressed in silver and dressed in white
She says she's having the strangest dream
Of another time and century
And now she speaks of a far-off place
A woman and a man are in a deep embrace
Don't they know it's against the law?
Well, it must have been before the war
Long before......

They had real love and emotion, sight and touch
Sweet love and devotion, sight and touch
Real love and emotion in such a modern world

She hears voices in her mind
Talking of another world lost in time
Before they took away the words
They told us how we used to be
Ah, history

(Chorus)

Now we live in a two-by-four
Never going outside through the door
They're watching us on the video line
But we sit and wait until the night
And in the night, we have......

(Chorus)

31. You beat me to it...
R.E.M. wrote a lot of good political songs during the Reagan era that are every bit as relevant today as they were in the 80s. "Cuyahoga", "Disturbance at the Heron House", "Fall On Me", "The Flowers of Guatemala", etc, etc...

Their song "Bad Day" was written in the 80s, but they just recently recorded it, and I don't think they changed a single lyric.

"Shit so thick you could stir it with a stick,
free teflon wire-washed presidency,
'We're sick of being jerked around!',
wear that on your sleeve."

"We're dug in deep,
the price is steep,
the auctioneer is such a creep.
The lights went out, the oil went dry,
we blamed it on the other guy..."

36. TEARS FOR FEARS - Everybody Wants To Rule The World (Lyrics)
Welcome to your life
There's no turning back
Even while sleep
We will find you
Acting on your best behaviour
Turn your back on mother nature
Everybody wants to rule the world
It's my own design
It's my own remorse
Help me to decide
Help make the most
Of freedom and of pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world
There's a room where the light won't find you
Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down
When they do I'll be right behind you
So glad we've almost made it
So sad they had fade it
Everybody wants to rule the world
I can't stand this indecision
Married with a lack of vision
Everybody wants to rule the world
Say that you'll never never never need it
One headline why believe it ?
Everybody wants to rule the world
All for freedom and for pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world

23. Eye in the Sky - Alan Parsons Project

Don't think sorry's easily said
Don't try turning tables instead

You've taken lots of Chances before
But I ain't gonna give any more

Don't ask me

That's how it goes
Cause part of me knows what You're thinkin'

Don't say words you're gonna regret
Don't let the fire rush to your head

I've heard the accusation before
And I ain't gonna take any more

Believe me

The sun in your Eyes
Made some of the lies worth believing

Chorus:
I am the eye in the sky
Looking at you

I can read your mind

I am the maker of rules
Dealing with fools

I can cheat you blind

And I don't Need to see any more
To know that I can read your mind,
I can read your mind

Don't leave false Illusions behind
Don't Cry cause I ain't changing my mind

So find another fool like before

Cause I ain't gonna live anymore believing
Some of the lies while all of the Signs are deceiving

Chorus

35. I'll stop the world - Modern English
Edited on Tue Aug-10-04 01:30 PM by Blue-Jay
Moving forward using all my breath
Making love to you was never second best
I saw the world thrashing all around your face
Never really knowing it was always mesh and lace

I'll stop the world and melt with you
You've seen the difference and it's getting better all the time
There's nothing you and I won't do
I'll stop the world and melt with you

(You should know better)
Dream of better lives the kind which never hate
(You should see why)
Dropped in the state of imaginary grace
(You should know better)
I made a pilgrimage to save this humans race
(You should see why)
What I'm comprehending a race that long gone bye

(I'll stop the world) I'll stop the world and melt with you
(I'll stop the world) You've seen the difference and it's getting better all the time
(Let's stop the world) There's nothing you and I won't do
(Let's stop the world) I'll stop the world and melt with you

The future's open wide

(Let's stop the world) I'll stop the world and melt with you
(Let's stop the world) I've seen some changes but it's getting better all the time
(Let's stop the world) There's nothing you and I won't do
(Let's stop the world) I'll stop the world and melt with you

The future's open wide

hmmm hmmm hmmm
hmmm hmmm hmmm hmmm
hmmm hmmm hmmm
hmmm hmmm hmmm hmmm

I'll stop the world and melt with you (Let's stop the world)
You've seen the difference and it's getting better all the time (Let's stop the world)
There's nothing you and I won't do (Let's stop the world)
I'll stop the world and melt with you (Let's stop the world)
I'll stop the world and melt with you (Let's stop the world)
I'll stop the world and melt with you (Let's stop the world)

45. Earth Crisis, Steel Pulse
The Earth is the Lord's
And the fullness thereof now
Gave man his love and they
Reward him with violence
And in these last days
Lend ears to what I say
Man in his ignorant state
Has signed and sealed his own fate
Doctrines of the fallen angels
To quench eternal flames of hell
Doctrines of the fallen angels
To quench eternal flames of hell

CHORUS
Earth crisis Earth crisis
All this suffering
Earth crisis Earth crisis

Misguided people
They don't seem to care
They carry the symbol
Of the eagle and the bear
Across the globe
Far east to far west
High tax and cutbacks for military defence
Doctrines of the fallen angels
To quench eternal flames of hell
Doctrines of the fallen angels
To quench eternal flames of hell

CHORUS
Earth crisis Earth crisis
All this suffering
Earth crisis Earth crisis

Super powers have a plan
Undermining Third World man
Suck their lands of minerals
Creating famine and pestilence
You hear what I say hear what I say

The Earth is the Lord's
And the fullness thereof now
Gave man his love and they
Reward him with violence
And in these last days
Lend ears to what I say
Man in his ignorant state
Has signed and sealed his own fate in this

CHORUS
Earth crisis
In a Earth, in a Earth, in a dis ya time yah
Earth crisis, Earth crisis
You life in there hands just waiting to explode
Earth crisis
A touch of a button fingertip control
Earth crisis
It hardly surprising
Earth crisis
JAH kingdom rising
Earth crisis
All this suffering

47. "Beat Street" ...seriously listen to the last verse (lyrics below)
A newspaper burns in the sand, and the headlines say ‘Man destroys Man!’
Extra! Extra! Read all the bad news on the war for peace that everybody would lose
The rise and fall, the last great empire, the sound of the whole world caught on fire
The ruthless struggle, the desperate gamble
The game that left the whole world in shambles
The cheats, the lies, the alibis
And the foolish attempt to conquer the skies
Lost in space, and what is it worth, huh?
The president just forgot about Earth
Spending multi billions, and maybe even trillions
The cost of weapons ran into zillions
There’s gold in the street, and diamonds under feet
And the children in Africa don’t even eat
Flies on their faces, they’re living like mice
And the houses even make the ghetto look nice, Huh!
The water tastes funny, it’s forever too sunny
And they work all month and don’t make no money
A fight for power, a nuclear shower
And people shout out in the darkest hour
Of sights unseen and voices unheard
And finally the bomb gets the last word
Christians killed Muslims, and Germans killed Jews
And everybody’s bodies are used and abused, Huh!
Minds are poisoned and souls are polluted
Superiority complex is deep rooted
Leeches and lice’s, and people got prices
Egomaniacs control the self-righteous
Nothing is sacred and nothing is pure
So the revelation of death is our cure
Hitler and Caesar, Custer and Reagan
Napoleon, Castro, Mussolini and Begin
Ghengis Khan and the Shah of Iran
Mixed with the blood of the weaker man
The peoples in terror, the leaders made the error
And now they can’t even look in the mirror
‘Cause we gotta suffer while things get rougher
And that’s the reason why we got to get tougher
To learn from the past and work for the future
And don’t be a slave to no computer
‘Cause the Children of Man inherits the land
And the future of the world is in your hands
So just throw your hands in the air
And wave ‘em like you just don’t care
And if you believe that you’re the future
Scream it out and say ‘Oh yeah!’ (‘Oh yeah!’)
‘Oh yeah!’ (‘Oh yeah!’)
Raah!

53. "Panic" (The Smiths)

Panic on the streets of London
Panic on the streets of Birmingham
I wonder to myself
Could life ever be sane again ?
The Leeds side-streets that you slip down
I wonder to myself
Hopes may rise on the Grasmere
But Honey Pie, you're not safe here
So you run down
To the safety of the town
But there's Panic on the streets of Carlisle
Dublin, Dundee, Humberside
I wonder to myself

Burn down the disco
Hang the blessed DJ
Because the music that they constantly play
IT SAYS NOTHING TO ME ABOUT MY LIFE
Hang the blessed DJ
Because the music they constantly play

On the Leeds side-streets that you slip down
Provincial towns you jog 'round
Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ
Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ
HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ
HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ
HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ
Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ
HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ
HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ
Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ
HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ
HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ
Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ
HANG THE DJ
