It is ground zero for the fundamentalist element in the deep south. Also, Pensacola is known as the city of 10,000 churches. It's a strange mix down there though. Pensacola Beach is also known as the Gay Riviera. Go figure.

9. Just got back from the anti-Bush protest in Pensacola

I stood in the pouring rain for 3 hours with my Kerry/Edwards sign.

The Bush supporters were a dour bunch. I have never seen a more unhappy looking group of people in my life.

The local SWAT team (in full battle dress and armed with MP-5 submachine guns) made me, a mother and her daughter (also protesters) move across the street so the Kool-Aid drinkers could enter the Civic Center without encountering fellow citizens who happen to hold opposing viewpoints.

Two women were arrested when the FratBoy Express arrived.

One of them (a protester) apparently was pushed off the curb by the other.

They were being placed in squad cars as I left...
