Traffic stopped on Interstate for 20 min so Cheney can go to fund-raiser
Cheney raises money in Upstate for Bush

snip

Traffic on I-85 was halted twice for roughly 20 minutes each for Cheney's arrival and departure, said Lance Cpl. Dan Marsceau, a Highway Patrol spokesman. Marsceau said traffic was stopped for 10 minutes so the Secret Service could secure the route. It took another 10 minutes for the motorcade to pass through, he said.

"Every effort was made to try and keep it to a minimum," Marsceau said. For Cheney's departure, points on East Main and North Pine streets were sealed off at 12:30 p.m. to 1:15 p.m., trapping scores of people in parking lots as local police erected crime scene tape and red and orange sawhorses.

"Crime scene tape", how appropriate.

2. That's not unusual
i worked at newark airport during clinton and bush visits (and vp's). they routinely shut down the all the roads around the airport (I-78, 1/9, and NJ turnpike) as well as runways and the service road around the airfields. they would take them out a gate at the end of the road and straight onto the highway.

during these times we were required to stay in our construction trailer and our crews would be assembled in one spot with all the equipment watched by PANYNJ and secret service until the motorcade or planes were well away from the airport.

3. The "bubble" is getting a bit ridiculous
Like royalty passing through the huddled commoners.
It's apparently being ego driven at this point.

I soon expect to see one of them carried on the shoulders of servants, or in a curtained coach.

4. Par for the course no matter which party is in power.

The Secret Service, no matter WHO is in office, could care less about disrupting traffic. Even rush-hour traffic. They simply don't care.

As much as I hate B/C, I have to say the blame for this goes to the Secret Service. They don't care about ANYONE except for their charges.

Working in Washington, DC, I've had my share of traffic jams due to motorcades. They are unavoidable, and they are about as pleasant as a simultaneous colonoscopy-root canal.

5. And Bill Clinton tied up an airport for a haircut.
None of them give a rat's ass for the rest of us.

None of them.

7. I guess,
Except that Clinton never tied up an airport for a haircut. That story is a Republican lie.

9. That asshole did the same thing when he was here in Philly awhile back
and it wasn't just one highway but THREE MAJOR highways in Philly: I-95, Schuylkill and The Blue Route.

I was driving up to Philly where I would catch the 3pm train to take me to NYC for RBNYC's birthday party. About half a mile before the Blue Route (this bypasses Philly), traffic came to a dead halt. I turn on the local station that broadcasts traffic reports every 10 minutes to find out the roads are all blocked because of Crashcart Cheney.

Ok, I can understand why 95 was blocked, but I could see the freaking Blue Route, a highway that totally bypasses Philly, and they had that shut down too, which means I couldn't get off of where I was at and take the back roads into Philly.

Needless to say I was 90 minutes late for RBNYC's party
