You know what sucks the most about being broke?
Edited on Tue Aug-10-04 01:16 PM by HEyHEY
The fact that there is money everywhere. All I see is cash, and I remember when I was around 20 living at home and working full time - $20 was like nothing. Now, it's a substansial amount of money. Even after when I was selling ads making shitloads of money, I'd spend $20 bucks on a lunch.
It's not supposed to work this way, after school you leave and make tons of money right?

Every register, every wallet except mine has money in it, it seems.

9. I know what you mean!
I have friends who have everything- and keep getting more. They travel, new cars, the best of everything. But then I think about people who have far less than I and I don't complain (much). I never wanted to be rich, but I would like to travel more and also not worry so much from check to check. We get no vacation this year and I am worried about money for college for my oldest who graduates next year. It's a long, hard road sometimes.

11. Yeah, same here
My friends all are buying houses, driving new cars all that. I'm the only one with academic post secondary. The richest of all has no post secondary (course being eir to a multi million dollar construction company helps but still he has worked hard for every buck he has.)
The others are all tradesman, except my friends I worked at the city with making $20 an hour to pull weeds.
Sheesh.

Living check to check and worrying all the time. There's nothing quite like that sensation of panic upon realizing that the bills amount to more than the check!

24. I agree.
I remember being really elated on payday. For one afternoon I got to feel like I was flush. Not any more. It's already spent by the time I get it home.

Either that or you should visit some friends and or family and sponge some good meals and drinks off of them. That'll help.

If I can convince mom to throw me a $20 for gas, I intended to go again today.

Being 25 and begging from mom and Dad really sucks ass.

15. I'm happy and succesful - it's just bills
I owe about $1000 in bills monthly. For student loans, car insurance rent all that shit. So I get left with about $650 all for me...then I gotta buy food, gas, etc....

What is it you are having trouble affording?

As long as you have enough to eat and drink and clothes to wear, you should be ok

21. I just have to point out a few things
For one, you know that you picked the wrong career if your goal is to make money. Sure, there's a few big players out there, but most in journalism just barely scrape by.

Secondly, at the risk of sounding indifferent to your plight, be thankful you have a job and enough money to pay your bills. Some people, including a number here, aren't even able to do that. The rest is just gravy.

20. After I left school...
I wound up in a low paying research job with a PhD. After 5 months of job hunting I'm still here and cannot wait to tell my boss to stick it where the sun don't shine. I had one interview last week and two more next week so things are looking up.

Of two of my friends, one never quite finished college and earns a mere $70k over what I do (he's single, I'm married w/ 1 kid). What does he do? He squanders his money on who knows what. My other friend is a Hollywood talent agent and will make close to $200k this year before the age of 30. What does he do? Somehow, his lifestyle is such that he's in debt. ALl I want to do is be able to pay my rent and afford diapers...which I can't do without my OTHER job!

I fell your pain HEyHEY. Seriously, I do. It makes one wonder why on earth you go to school at all.

30. At least you have not only a job, but a job in your field.
And I would guess that you knew it was a low-paying field. I have an MS in journalism and I've never had a full-time job in the field. (I did do some freelancing I enjoyed but needed another job to support it.) After my latest layoff, I've only found a 16-hour-a-week job and haven't even found a second PT job to supplement it. And judging by what I've seen lately, I can make more money as an administrative assistant than I can as a writer/editor. When I send a resume for an editorial job, they write back to insist on my giving them salary requirements. I always low-ball it, then never hear from them again. Whatever they're paying is lower than what I would need to support myself, and I'm a single person.
