I loved them when Staubach and Tony Dorsett were on the team.

5. Right. Same reason a lot of people
don't like the Atlanta Braves in baseball. People who live in other areas tend to resent the term "America's team" when used to describe what is just another competitor to them.

11. yeah, but the Braves' slogan never "stuck"
I don't hate the Braves because of their penchant for slogan-stealing. For a while, they had the most entertaining pitching lineup that had ever been assembled.

27. Ditto.
I used to not like them because I was a Packer fan and they were a rival. But that was the late 60's/early 70's. However, I look back on them fondly because of Meredith, Staubach, Hayes, etc. I respected them then.

I lost respect when they started calling themselves "America's team". Nobody has a right to announce themselves that way. Same with the Braves. Heck neither Braves nor Cowboys has even existed all that long. If you want to pick an "America's team" it should be the Packers or Cubs or Yankees. Or if you wanna be democratic, put it to a vote. The team with the most fans gets to claim the title.

62. Braves have been around longer than the packers or the yankees
in fact they played in the very first NL game in 1876. The cubs were also a part of the original National League.

Interesting side note, the cubs were originaly the white sox and the braves were originally the red sox. the AL teams in boston and chicago both took the original name of the NL teams of those cities.

No team other than an olympic team should be called "America's Team"

41. That's when they lost me, too.
I despise Jerry Jones. And Jimmy Johnson. I haven't forgiven either one of them.

I'm not much of a sports fan; if it weren't for the Cowboys, I wouldn't have ever watched any kind of team sport. Growing up in So CA, I got to watch them scrimmage in Thousand Oaks during the summer. My first time out to see them, we were sitting on some benches at the 50 yard line watching them scrimmage; my mom's boyfriend took us. It was '70 or '71; I was 10 or 11. They were Superbowl champs, although I had no idea what that meant. They won my enthusiasm when the guy behind us started screaming at the top of his lungs:

GET 'EM CHARLIE! KNOCK HIS BALLS OFF! STOP HIM RIGHT THERE! KNOCK HIS BALLS OFF, CHARLIE! (To Charlie Waters). And more like that, except for more graphic.

My mother turned several shades of pink and red. If I'd been any younger, she would have covered my ears. I was enjoying her mortification so thoroughly that I became an instant, enthusiastic fan.

I became loyal that fall. We went to a huge football party the Sunday the Cowboys showed up to play the Rams; probably 25 couples crammed into the place. All those men, all pumped up for the Rams, thought it was just adorable that a little girl was rooting for the cowboys. They all bet me quarters. All four quarters, I was cheering and they were screaming and throwing things. I went home with about $12 worth of quarters; not bad for a kid in '71. That scenario was repeated for years, straight into adulthood.

These days, I don't even watch football anymore. But just a mention of the Redskins can still raise the hair on the back of my neck. :D

10. Same reason I hate the Yankees.
Other than the late '90s, the Yanks haven't been perrennial champions since the early '60s. Likewise, the Cowboys had a stretch in the mid '70s and another in the early '90s when they were tops.

Yet both the Yankees and the Cowboys (and many of their fans) have ALWAYS thought that the world revolved around their team. Lemme just say it straight out: I love the Reds. The Reds suck this year, as they have the past few years, and as they will again next year. Regardless of my fealty to the team, I can admit when they suck. I don't get a big old ego fart over it. I don't assume that I am "better" than anyone because I am a Reds fan.

Fuck the Cowboys. ;)

the arrogance of their fans is a huge reason as well. For the record, my roommate is a cowgirl's fan, so I have first-hand knowledge of the aforementioned arrogance.

Jerry Jones, his facelift, and the way he did the great Tom Landry are really all the reasons you need to hate them.

23. Innovations originated by the Dallas Cowboys franchise
Extended uprights
The 40 yard dash for scouting purposes (replaced the irrelevant 100 yard dash)
Their whole scouting system which includes small colleges not just the football factories
First down markers on the ground-for when the sticks get moved the player still can see where the first down is.

rather than pay attention to how much the playing sucks.

In college the playing is better and the cheerleaders have a diminished role.

In Pro-footbal there were no cheerleaders until the Cowboys perverted the fine game of football by bringing them in.

The better the football the less need for cheerleaders.

Their star-spangled, straight-laced phoniness is almost as bad as that of the Dodgers. The Dodgers are the only other professional sports team I detest profoundly.
