"Iron Eyes" Cody
The Famous PSA:

Did you know that Cody was not an American Indian? This blew my mind. Nor was the guy who wrote "The Education of Little Tree"

Does EVERYTHING I grew up believing in have to be a lie to one degree or another?

-sigh-

1. I met Iron Eyes Cody
Edited on Tue Aug-10-04 01:48 PM by Misinformed01
this is from his biography:

Iron Eyes was born April 3, 1904 at Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, and passed away January 4, 1999. He was from the Cree-Cherokee Tribes. His name is on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Palm Springs Walk of Fame. The Iron Eyes Cody Foundation supports scholarships for Indian education for Indian students. Iron Eyes Cody has had audiences with every U.S. President since Roosevelt, also Pope John Paul II in Rome. Iron Eyes was in more Rose Parades than any other actor.

Damn! Was reading Snopes and didn't finish my post....I can't believe his bio STILL claims him to be a Native American...isn't that wild!

2. I think that he got so into the role that he actually came to believe it.
I still like the guy, and I understand how becoming something more than what you are would be appealing. He wouldn't be the first...

The funny thing is that Cody looks more like our sterotypical image of an Indian than most real native Americans do.

I'll never forget when I was much younger and more conservative, I started going off about Indians and reservations like I knew something about it, and the guy I was talking to told me I was full of shit and that he was full-blooded Indian. I never would've guessed. Just goes to show you can't judge a book by its cover.

7. I hate to mention it, but C. Thomas Howell was NOT a black guy...
in "Soul Man".

One of the most offensive storylines ever concocted in a film.
