Good news and a request for positive thoughts
Edited on Tue Aug-10-04 07:25 PM by Mikimouse
I just found out that I have an interview at a major university for a position. Right now, it is a temporary position, but I am going to try and find out if there is any chance that it will turn into a Visiting position in the future. The teaching load would be about one fourth of my current load and would pay three times as much, so it is very attractive. The downside is that I would have to pack, find a place to live, and move, all within the next three weeks, but if it works out it will be worth it.

13. Thank you very much liberalmuse...
It is what I have worked toward for almost ten years now. It should not have taken so long for me to finish my degree (still working on the dissertation), but I got sidetracked for a while and ended up teaching a horrendous load just to make ends meet. I love the acadame, and my students.:hi:

8. Do it! And Congrats...
I've found that if you take a position that "might" turn into a permanent one, as long as you do your best and show results, the employer is more than happy to hire a known commodity over a resume and an interview. Happened to me many years ago after I had switched careers. I accepted a consultant position that was temporary with the qualification that if I performed well, I would be offered a permanent position after six months. Can you work a similar agreement in somehow? Worked for me.

14. Thank you Misunderestimator...it could work...
out that way. In my line of work, a temp. position can turn into a visiting prof. position, which can then eventually morph into a tenure track assistant prof. position. This position is in a location that I would most definitely enjoy as well, so I am very happy about getting the interview. My teaching creds are excellent, with a fair sprinkling of courses, and my student/faculty evaluations are among the highest in my current department, so I think that if I get this, I may get the opportunity to stay. :hi:

21. Arkansas...
northern Arkansas, that is. By the way, the hunting offer does not change if I move. The lease is already mine for the upcoming season and I will come down for a hunt or five or six. This does not change that. Thanks bf454!!!
