Greatest "Made In The U.S.A." American Rock & Roll album of all time?
NO "British Invasion" stuff here. What is, in your opinion, the greatest AMERICAN rock & roll album ever made?

Here are a few of my choices (from my own "Top 100"):

32. Guess: It was made in the USA...
in Miami...
its title is the emotional signature song of all time...
has the greatest collection of album cuts ever ....
4/5ths of the band were Americans, with
one sort of honorary American fronting

Best Album Ever....

7. The Zappa choice was a hard one, but I picked Hot Rats because of...
"Willie The Pimp" and especially "Peaches En Regalia," one of his signature tunes. I've been known to drive around town with "Weasels" (specifically the "Orange County Lumber Truck" section) cranked up pretty loud.

You might already own this, but just in case I'll mention the "Ahead Of Their Time" CD...recorded at Royal Albert Hall 10/28/68. "Orange County Lumber Truck" and "Prelude...Gas Mask" from "Weasels" were taken from this concert, but this one is the whole show.

16. You're right...every one has something essential
One of the recent mix CDs I made for the car has "Muffin Man"...then there's always "Zoot Allures" and "Black Napkins," or "Chunga's Revenge"...

And the un-frigging-believable version of "The Torture Never Stops" on "You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore Volume One." Terry Bozzio's drum accents at the end of the "That's what's the deal we're dealin' is" refrains are Bonzo-riffic. The band (also featuring Adrian Belew and Patrick O'Hearn) really played like a BAND that night...incredible precision and interlocking improvs.

Iggy once explained what "real "O" mind" means (from "Down On The Street") and it STILL made no sense. But this has been one of my favorite L-O-U-D songs for years.

24. Lou, yes...but there's got to be at least one album with Robert Quine
The title track to "Blue Mask" is one of my all-time Reed favorites. Quine was credited with being the man got Lou to pick up the guitar and start playing again. I love the Hunter-Wagner stuff on "Animal," but the Reed-Quine era is special. "Live In Italy" is sloppy, but the only legitimate live document of that era and the "Some Kinda Love / Sister Ray" medley is pretty insane.

27. Eddie Van Halen, the man who "brought back the guitar"...
I remember the end of the disco era, at work in a warehouse for $1.75 an hour, when out of the little transistor radio we all shared came ROARING "You Really Got Me"...and all of a sudden, kids in suburbs all across America picked up their guitars, paid for lessons, got into bands...of course, we ended up with a lot of crappy bands as a result, but EDDIE...as arrogant and egotistical as he may be...MADE IT COOL TO PLAY THE GUITAR AGAIN.

22. "The Blasters"
Except it was never released as a CD. The most excellent folks at Rhino Records now offer "Testament: The Complete Slash Recordings". So you can hear "Marie, Marie", "American Music", "Border Radio", "Long White Cadillac", etc. I've got a bunch of this on vinyl but will be getting the CD.

I agree with many of the preceding albums, but nobody had mentioned The Blasters yet.

"Dark Night" was one of the GREATEST soundtrack moments in the Quentin Tarentino / Robert Rodriguez flick "From Dusk Till Dawn." Clooney and Tarentino, driving down the road, all of a sudden "Hot air hung like a dead man"... MAGIC.

"American Music" is probably the greatest "U.S.A." song since the days of Chuck Berry. A lot of people jumped on the "Roots Rock" bandwagon, but these guys...and THESE GUYS:

...were the KINGS.

31. Yeah, that and "Nebraska"...the dark side of the American spirit.
I always had special memories of this one because Johnny Cash, in the middle of a creative and commercial renaissance, covered "Highway Patrolman" and "Johnny 99."

Also, many people here have acknowledged Cash as a "rock star" as well as a "country star"...so he should probably be added:

36. Carl Perkins once asked Chuck...after he stopped having hits...
..."why aren't you into having hit songs anymore, Chuck?"

Berry replied "If I don't answer that, can I still be your friend?"

But yeah, "America" + "Rock & Roll" = "Chuck."
