I drove my Kerrymobile into the heart of DuPage county tonight
and lived! (I went to a meeting at the College of DuPage.)

I may as well paint a big donkey on my car, it's so festooned with bumperstickers. I only saw two other political bumperstickers out there: one that said "Support Our Troops - Bring them Home Alive - Bring Them Home Now" and an SUV with one of those oval "W '04" stickers, small and discreet so it doesn't announce to everyone that you actually support that loser.

1. You are my hero
Every time I travel into DuPage I feel as though I have to wear a brown shirt just to get past the border. Kudos.

2. Actually DuPage is trending Democratic
It's Will and Kane counties that really scare me.

4. I live in Lake
I know Lake is trending dem, but DuPage trending dem is news to me. Kane is pretty repub but Will has some good, solid dems as well.

3. DuPage county has heart?
I grew up in Lake County...DuPage seemed like some distant, hazy
place you drove through fast to get to cooler places like
Joliet/Lockport. Now it's teeming with Republicans who read a really terrible suburban newspaper. (I have to do some advertising work there sometimes.)

Glad you came out alive.

5. I live in Dupage, have a Kerry/Edwards sticker
and haven't had a problem. Though I don't see all that many political bumper stickers, I'd say it runs about 50/50 in terms of representation.

I can only say from personal experience, but I don't think the area's GOP base is nearly as strong as it once was. I'm interested to see Kerry's numbers here in November.

6. Two of my kids live in Du Page and have Kerry/Edwards
bumper stickers.

The place is changing.

42% of Du Page voters took a Democratic ballot in the primary. I think it was because of Obama. I think Obama may have coattails there in November, too. Imagine that! He isn't really in a position of power yet, but Obama, not Kerry, may have coattails in Du Page County.

My son got a big survey from the Du Page County repukes, asking what they could do to regain his trust. LOL!

I lived there until 1978. I don't think it is the same place any more. Remember, the demographics of that county are changing. And even some of the smarter repukes are repulsed by Keyes.
