Roger Ebert is a genius
Beyond the Valley of the Dolls is on IFC right now.

The Carrie Nations rock, in a completely mediocre way.

3. Yeah, but didn't Meyer have his mammae-obsessed tentacles in there?
Edited on Wed Aug-11-04 01:27 AM by jpgray
I could have sworn he directed the thing.

edit: Okay, yeah he did. Google is my friend. :silly:

5. i haven't seen it.
I've been told that it's horrible. But is it horrible because of horrible writing? Or because of horrible production, acting, directing, editing, or a combination thereof?

8. It's just about my favorite movie ever
"Find It," the opening song, is fucking brilliant. So many great lines, like, "This is my happening and it freaks me out!" "You're a groovy boy; I'd like to strap you on sometime" and "Hey, man, that's really getting it together!" added to the general campiness of it, well, this is one weird-ass film.

I saw this in a rep theater in high school, without having any idea what to expect. Now, I think it's been so overblown by people like myself that it's lost the allure it had for me back in the '80s.:D

12. Greatest, most obtuse movie threat ever
What were they thinking when they wrote that? Rather, what were they ON, and where can I get some of it?

14. Your odd flamingyouth factoid of the night
Eve Meyer, Russ' wife, co-produced most of his films and even acted as herself in a film called (I think) "His Handyman" in the early '60s. Mostly she helped get his shit together. They separated in the '70s but remained close until she perished on March 27, 1977, in a collision between two 747s in Tenerife, Canary Islands. If memory serves, that stands as the worst air disaster in history.
