So much for Olympic ideals-"bring the wrong drink and be banned"
http://www.herald.ns.ca/stories/2004/08/08/f202.raw.html

Unbelievable-from the article:

"In a far cry from the high-minded ideals of humanity and tolerance embodied by the Olympics, the organizers of the Athens games have warned spectators that they could be barred for taking a surreptitious sip of Pepsi or an illicit bite from a Burger King Whopper.

Strict regulations published by Athens 2004 last week dictate that spectators may be refused admission to events if they are carrying food or drinks made by companies that did not see fit to sponsor the games. "

------snip------

Well, I guess it was to be expected since we are living in the time of the corporation.

1. HOORAY! for the Olympics!
I just watch gymnastics anyway. Who cares about the rest of it, really?

3. Flame me all you want - As far as I am concerned
the Olympic movement died the moment the introduced the "official sponsors".

Not only that but all these dope stories and the bribe scandals...

I read somewhere that the Athens Olympic Games costed 4 or 5 or 6 (can't remember) billion dollars sofar. This is ridiculous. Next games will cost 10 billion I predict and the 2012 games will cost 20 billion. Mark my word.

Why can't they host the games in cities that already have the venues and infrastructure required?

I am seriously considering joining this Greek organization I read somewhere about. Their slogan is "The games were born here, the games should die here". Or something to that effect.

4. Someone should ...
dress as the King, and try to go to some events.
